Though I had stated that this is not generally the kind of movie broadcast that I do, having posted the First and Second trailer, I might as well showcase the film opening date as well. I enjoyed the trailers and felt it was a less serious take on “Independence Day” if I could draw a quick comparison. As an old school Colecovision and Atari 2600 dude I have to admit I was chuckling when I saw the clips. The movie “Pixels” opens up today in theaters almost everywhere. Check out the poster, premise and the cast below. I will return with some thoughts of my own afterward.
The Plot:
In 1982, in the hopes of establishing peaceful communication with extraterrestrial life, NASA launches a time capsule into outer space containing images and footage of Earth life and culture. However, the aliens misinterpret enclosed video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war. They attack the Earth using the games as models for their various assaults including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Space Invaders, Arkanoid and Tetris. Their technology creates voxels that change form and are capable of turning any form of matter into more of itself. President Will Cooper calls upon his best friend since childhood, former video game professional Sam Brenner, who is now a home theater installer and had a previous relationship with Cooper’s wife. To combat the video game characters, Brenner decides to lead a team of retrogamers Eddie Plant and Ludlow Lamonsoff to defeat the aliens with technology similar to those used in games.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: The advance reviews of this film were not too flattering but lets see what happens here because I remember reading some critics opinions that said “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” was no good either. Of course Adam Sandler’s appeal no longer draws me into the cinema and I will likely see this when it comes to HBO or Netflix but for those are are going this seems to be a good time. Who doesn’t want to see giant depictions of Donkey Kong and Pac Man destroying a city? What do you readers think? Will you be seeing this film? You can learn more about the feature via its official Wikipedia entry below but only click it if you are a fan of spoilers since this will run the overall plot by you.
