Now I realize that I used this to open up the broadcast post about the first Captain America film when it came out but its such a good song that I just had to do it again, here we go 🙂
“When Captain America throws his mighty shield! All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield! If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due then the red and the white and the blue will come through when Captain America throws his mighty shield!!!!!”
Okay, that is out of my system now for the most part but how cool is it that the second film featuring Cap is opening up today as a part of the continued efforts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Pretty damn cool in my book. The poster is pretty dramatic as well, check it out….
As I have maintained in similar posts about the live action Marvel Universe films, I really enjoyed most of what the first “Captain America: The First Avenger” film was all about and was over the moon when it came down to “The Avengers” and now with him firmly entrenched “in the now” as opposed to the past, it’s time to push forward and keep expanding what these characters face in the battle for the good of mankind. Check out the premise below which I have copied care of Wikipedia.org
The Plot: Two years after the events of The Avengers, Steve Rogers resides peacefully in Washington, D.C., struggling to adapt to contemporary society. However, after a S.H.I.E.L.D. compatriot is assailed, Steve becomes entangled in a mystery that may endanger the globe. Together with Natasha Romanoff, Captain America attempts to uncover the growing machination while fending off hired hit men. When the entire scheme is discovered, Captain America and the Black Widow must recruit the aid of the Falcon and soon encounter an unanticipated and powerful adversary — the Winter Soldier.”
That sounds pretty cool right? They showed the trailer for this film way back in November when I caught “Thor: The Dark World” and it looked very exciting and appears to pit Cap against not only a deadly adversary but will also find him at odds with the very forces that appear to be in his corner in today’s modern world. It should be interesting and it’s great to see other heroes returning, new heroes appearing and even more new villains popping up. That keeps it more like the comic books since our stalwart heroes very seldom ever faced a single enemy in the monthly publications. We’ll meet The Falcon in this film and while I am NOT one of those folks who likes the non-costumed heroes, I am happy that we get another character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps if there is a “Captain America 3” we can go back to the heroes past and deal with The Invaders and give Marvel Comics fans that long hoped for appearance by Namor The Sub-Mariner. Remember we did see The Human Torch android in a tube during Stark Expo in the first Cap film. Anyway, before I get too far off track, the expansive cast is listed below.
The Cast:
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America:
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow:
Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes/Winter Soldier
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones
Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13
Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc
Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Toby Jones as Arnim Zola
Maximiliano Hernández as Jasper Sitwell
Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark
Garry Shandling as Senator Stern
Chin Han, Jenny Agutter (who previously appeared in The Avengers as a member of the World Security Council), Alan Dale and Bernard White have been cast as members of Pierce’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team. Callan Mulvey was cast in an unspecified supporting role in the film. Stan Lee will make a cameo appearance.
Below is a link to the film’s official Wikipedia entry but be careful when clicking that if you have not seen the movie since the premise will have changed into the complete storyline plot and likely ruin some key moments for you by accident. That ALMOST happened to me during “Iron Man 3” when I ….. (oh you didn’t think I was going to spoil that for you did you?).

Obviously we last saw Captain America protecting NYC and the world in “The Avengers” and his own film “Captain America: The First Avenger” so links to those films and some other fun stuff are here for the purchase hungry fans. Check ’em out.
I loved the individual character posters that were used in the promotion for the film and decided to add them to this posting for your larger enjoyment. I think they are pretty damn awesome…..especially the Black Widow one 🙂
