Opening: “Suicide Squad” (8/5/2016)

Logo - Suicide Squad Film

We have arrived at the third installment of the DC Extended Universe and after the division that “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” left us with I can only hope that we shall be placed onto a more proper live action path with this one. Check out the poster, premise and cast and then I will return with a few more thoughts on the matter.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: So I will start by saying that I have greatly enjoyed the trailers for this film but then again I also enjoyed the trailers for “BVS” and ended up walking out feeling as if I had been cheated. I wasn’t alone in this view and many of my comic book geek consortium all felt that the film was an overstuffed creative mess with too much backstory and too many unnecessary plot points leading us to a marginal climatic endgame. I’m going to leave out one of the closing WTF moments for those who didn’t see it yet but okay back to “Suicide Squad”. The characters are largely Batman villains and for the casual fan are unknown unless you are like folks such as myself who have followed the comic series and so forth. I loved the inclusion of Harley to the team when the series was relaunched years ago as she is a very popular one and someone that I lose count of seeing in Cosplay at the NYCC event each year. Now the question remains are those costumed fans truly fans of the character or do they just like dressing up as her. Only time will tell on that. Will Smith seems good for Deadshot but I think would have been a better Bronze Tiger had they included that original Suicide Squad villain in the film. I hope it works because this DC Extended Universe is on very shaky ground in comparison to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while I would love to see this one succeed I have already decided to see it a few weeks after opening in a local theater as opposed to one of those Manhattan googaplexes. What do you readers think about this opening? Will you be lined up on the first day or could you give a rats patoot? Let me know in the comments section below.
