After the short hiatus due to a medical condition on his hand Dave Mustaine has recovered completely and not only recorded their latest opus entitled “The System Has Failed”, but also returned to the touring venues. This time around would be Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Openers would be legendary Bay Area thrashers Exodus but since I ran late that evening I missed their entire performance. I was not very happy about this since their latest CD has been very well-received. On talking with some audience members I was informed on how kick ass they had played. Oh well, I am sure they will return also. This seems to be a good year for metal shows, lots of great acts doing tours and almost everyone is hitting NYC.
Megadeth has a completely new lineup once again and this time helping Dave deal the metal out is Glen Drover (King Diamond) on guitar, James McDonough (Iced Earth) on bass, and Shawn Drover (Eidolon) on drums. The lineup did a killer job on the mainstays as well as the new material but I could swear that the main lights were mainly focused on Dave himself and not the other players. It probably did not matter much to the fans as Dave is Megadeth without any question about it. The set list was broken up into a fair amount of new and classic material and Dave proves again and again why he is a major player in the metal world. I don’t think I excluded any songs from the list I made. It was a fairly long set as well, and that’s important to give the audience as much as possible.
Overall I have to say that I enjoyed myself, yet I was not too crazy about the sound the room offered them that night. A lot of it seemed to bounce all over and was often tinny if I had to describe it. Still the moshing front audience did not seem to care, and as far as New York went Dave came, he saw he conquered.
