Marvel’s “True Believers” Issues Celebrate Jack Kirby’s 100th In August

Hey there True Believers (I’m sorry but it was too hard to avoid beginning like that for this particular comic book topic) and we are here once more with another exciting edition of first-issue offerings from the Marvel Comics side of the fence. If you’ve read any of our monthly solicitations posts then you have most probably already seen our special focuses on the TRUE BELIEVERS line and for the newbie, these are the $1 comics that reprint classic stories and highlight special appearances of certain characters. If you’d like to see the previous posts of this nature just click HERE to launch the rundown of the posts that went online over the years. I don’t think that you will easily find some of the older ones all that easily considering the economical price, but some of you are true hunters and capable of anything when it comes to comic book collecting. Good luck to you if you are among this group. This next bunch of one-dollar special issues celebrates the 100th birthday of the absolutely legendary Jack “King” Kirby. Kirby was instrumental in the original success of Marvel Comics as the co-creator of some of the most famouse characters in comic book history (Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, The X-Men and Captain America among them). It’s exciting to find twelve editions to add to your collection and here is the cover art, new title and what it is reprinting. Every issue is “all-ages” suitable and spans 32 pages.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Aren’t they something? I think so and I cannot wait to get my hands on them all. Now I know you are probably wondering why there isn’t a larger presence of The X-Men here and even the mighty Fantastic Four and well the first part is simple. We just had a series of True Believers titles celebrating The X-Men a couple of months ago and Jack Kirby work was among those offerings and the second, well that is a little harder to explain. At present, Marvel Comics doesn’t control the rights to “The First Family” and 20th Century Fox does. That company has destroyed the creation IMHO and I don’t think Marvel is all that happy about it and like most of the fans of these characters would love for them to retain control of the license. If you want to torture a friend, make them sit through that 2015 “Fant4stic” Film as its utter garbage but I digress. I’m hoping that somehow Fox realizes the error of their ways and relinquish the rights before making another piece of trash. I don’t want the same sort of deal that Marvel worked out with Sony for Spider-Man that’s for sure. Okay I am off-topic here, so about these issues yeah sure there are some weird ones. I never expected to see the original “Devil Dinosaur” being re-issued but he is the star of a quirky title today and the Inhumans are getting a show that hits us in the coming month too. At least the comic that features them in this bunch is an old Fantastic Four issue so they make an appearance here. I don’t have to laud the popularity of Groot or Ant-Man and some of the mainstays and so many are excited about the upcoming Black Panther film so this is a healthy batch of good reading with some incredible art and characterizations. Which ones are your favorites and are you planning on stocking up? I am probably going to buy a few copies of each so I can hand some of them out to the aspiring fans of the medium. You can tell me what you think down in the comments. See you next time.
