Marvel Comics First Issues Coming December 2017

Happy December my friends. Let’s start off the first issue comic book solicitations with the Marvel titles this month as there are a few of them that I am psyched about for sure. Let’s take a look.

PHOENIX RESURRECTION: THE RETURN OF (ADULT) JEAN GREY #1: THE RETURN OF JEAN GREY Part 1. She will return, like a Phoenix from the ashes. Years ago, Jean Grey died and the X-Men mourned her. Since then, the world has changed, her teammates have lived without her and died without her. And now, when strange events start happening all over the world, those teammates can only come to one conclusion – the one true Jean Grey is back!

MATTHEW ROSENBERG (W) • Leinil Yu (A/C)

MARVEL 2-IN-ONE #1: The Fate of the Four Part 1. THE FOUR ARE NO MORE, SO TWO MUST DO! Something is very wrong with THE HUMAN TORCH and only THE THING can help him! It’s the Marvel Universe reunion you’ve all been waiting for (well, HALF of it, at least!). Plus: What monumental secret has DOOM been hiding since the end of SECRET WARS, and how will it completely change the lives of Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm? PLUS: Includes 3 bonus MARVEL PRIMER PAGES!

CHIP ZDARSKY (W) • JIM CHEUNG (A/C)

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN/VENOM: VENOM INC. ALPHA #1: VENOM INC. Part 1. Peter Parker, Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson have one major thing in common – the Venom symbiote changed all of their lives. The inky black alien life-form is doubling down on our heroes – and they’re not the only ones about to be put through the ringer. VENOM INC. kicks off here and rolls into AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & VENOM as a familiar face rises to new levels of villainy!

DAN SLOTT & MIKE COSTA (W) • RYAN STEGMAN (A/C)

X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN #1 (of 2): From Eisner award-winning creator Ed Piskor (Hip-Hop Family Tree) comes a thrilling new series chronicling all of X-Men history! X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN stitches together the most important moments in mutant history, creating a comprehensive narrative celebrating the X-Men’s past, present, and future. The first in a trilogy, GRAND DESIGN returns to Charles Xavier’s assembly of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel, and Beast! A must for fans looking to brush up on their X-Men lore or as jumping-on point for Marvel’s merry mutants.

ED PISKOR (W) • ED PISKOR (A/C)

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – Storms of Crait #1: This December, the soon-to-be thrilling Star Wars: The Last Jedi rocks movie screens across the world…and the reverberations are felt all around a galaxy far, far away! First up, learn the secret of the mineral planet Crait! Long before it became a battleground between the Resistance and the First Order, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa led the Rebellion there in search of a new home! From writers Ben Acker & Ben Blacker (Star Wars Join the Resistance) and artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire) comes the backstory to this winter’s biggest adventure!

STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE — THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY HC: Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope! This deluxe edition collects all of Marvel’s 40th anniversary cover art retelling the story of A New Hope — as illustrated by some of the industry’s most gifted artists, including Stuart Immonen, Adi Granov, Kevin Wada, Terry Dodson, Stephanie Hans and more! Extras include sketches and pencils, commentary, essays and the original Star Wars #1 from 1977 that began Marvel’s adaptation of the saga!

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I guess I should say “Welcome Back Jean” once more since she will be hitting the Marvel Universe hard. I know the series is going to be a five-part series so I might leaf through this in the comic store and then wait until its in a collected edition. I will be purchasing “Marvel Two-In-One” though since I loved that title and collected it religiously. The Venom title sounds interesting as does the special Star Wars hardcover but again those will need to be examined first. As the holiday approach the level of surplus cash is just not what I would like it to be. What about you readers? Which of these new launches and special releases do you find the most appealing? Let me know down in the comments section below.
