Marvel Comics #1’s Available In December 2014

Keeping up with the comic book coolness that is heading our way in December, its time to shine a spotlight on the folks at Marvel Comics who will be starting our preparations into 2015 with two new titles in “SHIELD” and “All-New Miracleman Annual”. As I’ve done before, I’ve procured the cover art and creative teams behind these titles and have respectfully copied the premise from official press copy or their online descriptions for your benefit. Let’s get right down to it as I still have to work off that Thanksgiving turkey 🙂

Comic - All-New Miracleman Annual 1 - 2014

All-New Miracleman Annual #1: It was the series that changed comics forever, injecting new sophistication into the medium and becoming one of the most significant works in comic history. Marvel is proud to present December’s ALL-NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1, bringing you new stories from legendary talents! Celebrated comic creators Grant Morrison, Joe Quesada, Peter Milligan, and Mike Allred unite for a star-studded, can’t-miss comic event that will have the whole industry talking! “Miracleman is a legend that resonates deeply in the world of comics,” says Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. “Without its trailblazing stories, who knows what the landscape of comics would look like today? If you want to live up to that pedigree, you don’t pull any punches. That’s why we tapped two incredible creative teams — Grant Morrison and Joe Quesada; Peter Milligan and Mike Allred — for this historic annual. ALL-NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1 is a must-read for any fan of the character, or the medium in general.”

Comic book icons Grant Morrison and Joe Quesada team for the first time to bring you a story over 20 years in the making. Famously written over 20 years ago, Grant Morrison’s long-lost Miracleman tale will finally see print in this epic, oversized annual! Brought beautifully to life by legendary artist and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, this notably unpublished story and much talked about piece of Miracleman history will finally be available for the first time ever! Experience a foreboding tale of the once Kid Miracleman prior to the cataclysmic Battle of London. Then, comic superstars Peter Milligan and Mike Allred take you back to the glory days of Miracleman’s past for an all-new look at the classic Mick Anglo era as Miracleman, Kid Miracleman and Young Miracleman do battle against a fearsome and terrifying foe! But amid the Miracleman Family’s awe-inspiring clash, there is a sense of unease. Something is not right. Something in Miracleman’s own mind! Is this all a dream? What is Project Zarathustra? Plus, ALL-NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1 comes jam-packed with bonus extras that should not be missed – including Grant Morrison’s original script, sketches, original art and more!

Writers: Grant Morrison, Peter Milligan; Art: Joe Quesada, Mike Allred

Comic - SHIELD 1 - 2014

S.H.I.E.L.D.: In the series, Phil Coulson and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. teams up with various superheroes. Maid said, I love Coulson. Love him. In the films, he became immediately humanized by the fact that he was a fan of Captain America’s from back in the day. Here, when we have him fully connected to the entire Marvel Universe, we’re going to find out that he has a fan-geek level knowledge of all its characters. That doesn’t mean he idolizes them all or necessarily even likes them all — but the reason there will be so many MU guest-stars is because there’s no better authority on Marvel Earth than Phil Coulson when it comes to figuring out whose powers and skill sets are the perfect complement to any mission.”

Writer: Mark Waid; Artist: Carlos Pacheco, Alan Davis, Chris Sprouse

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Let me start by saying how excited I am to find a comic based on the series that ties directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “S.H.I.E.L.D.” because I am. The series can expand the relationships with the existing Marvel Comics Universe and perhaps inspire new creations to come to life on the small screen. I am loving the show in its second season and think that after its slow initial start with season one has really delivered. The keeping in pace with the films when possible only makes this a better television experience and I look forward to what is to come. Let’s add to that how Phil Coulson rules. Now with “Miracleman” I am quite the novice and still needing to read the revised series that Marvel put out last year. I have always had interest in what my friends liked about this character for a long time but somehow I never got around to reading him. Hey that happens sometimes when there is a super-sized stack of books to pick up each month already. Let’s hope for a trade edition so I can catch up to the rest of you.

Keep up with Marvel Comics offerings via their official website linked below and I will see you in January with the new stuff that will be hitting the stands from them at that time.
