Legendary Presents: “Pacific Rim: Uprising” Official Trailer

The Official Trailer for the sequel to “Pacific Rim” came to light a couple of weeks ago, but with so many television and film posts thanks to the annual NY Comic Con, I decided to wait until the smoke cleared to share it with our readership. So the sequel is called “Pacific Rim: Uprising” and you guessed it…..”They’re baaaaaack”. Check it out below and then examine the premise and some casting. Don’t worry I will toss in my opinion as well as a closer.

The Premise: It has been ten years since the Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes when the Kaiju threat returns. Thrust into this is ex-Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost, son of the late Stacker Pentecost, who is given a chance by his adopted sister, Mako Mori, to unite with the world and fellow Jaeger pilots to prevent humanity’s extinction. (thanks Wiki)

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As you can see this looks like a lot of the same that we saw in the first film. To me this just looks like new monsters and new Jaegers along with new pilots to fend off the threat. I liked the first film enough but on more discussion after the fact found a whole bunch of issues with the release. Films like this don’t need the love story element involved. We come to see giant monsters fighting robots for one thing and that is giant monsters fighting robots. I don’t really care that that one pilot thinks another is cute and how hard it is for them to be fighting danger out of concern for one another – STFU with that stuff. Give me fights, technology that blows my mind and insidious monsters that want to tear these things apart. Adding romance to this one will be likely received as those who thought that more talking backstory would make the DVD of “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” a better film. Nope. That didn’t happen at all. What do you readers think of this trailer? Will you see the film when it comes out next year? Let me know down in the comments section below.
