Though the wearers of the mighty Powerglove had emerged from their respective basements with another tune yesterday after toiling on the 64 Bit systems that propel their creativity; I felt that there was no better day to discuss the latest single “Kraid’s Lair” than on April Fool’s Day. The song continues the bands plans of issuing a new tune each and every month in their quest to not only please their ardent geek admirers but to also drive website outlets crazy by doing this piecemeal instead of a few at a time. Let’s get down to the brass tacks on this one.
For those who aren’t yet aware of what Powerglove is, I say “too bad” as I don’t have time to explain much more than they are the Lords of Video Game Metal and you should feel honored to be hearing these compositions. As before this tune is an instrumental, and based on a video game premise with the game in question being “Super Metroid”. I had to look this up since I’ve never played the game before based on my doing things like going outside or jamming with my band back when others I knew were mastering the joystick in secluded confines. The Glove are honorable sorts so I’ll have to trust their portrayal on this wonderful offering. There is a cool majestic vibe on this one and some out of this world guitar playing and drumming by the guys. I say “out of this world” since it’s based on a space game and all. I know “ouch”. All kidding aside, the dudes can play and they showcase this during the tune. It’s not as “playful” as they have done in the past and keeps a more serious tone but that is fine also.
Okay Powerglove you’ve won me over with this one but now I’m sending you back down into the crypts or up to the attics or whatever fast food restaurant you’re hijacking the WiFi signal from so you can map out your next tune.
