If you’ve yet to indulge in the music coming from Detroit’s high-energy Alt-Punk band Kaleido, then there is no better time to start than right now as the band has offered up a cover of one of the legendary Misfits most seminal numbers “Halloween”. Starting off with heavy chord from guitarist Johnson and some sweet intro drums by Fava, the track rolls over you with the necessary speed for a Punk number like this. Singer Chriss sings with her own register and doesn’t aim at emulating Danzig at all which is refreshing. While its sometimes necessary to do so, I prefer when a band plays a cover like this as themselves and I’ve been a fan of Christina’s voice for a number of years now.
The purists need not worry if any Punk-attitude was sacrificed in this one because it hasn’t. I spun it a handful of times on Spotify and found myself headbanging and doing a little air-drumming as well as singing along. I mean, come on, how does one avoid singing along to those Misfits choruses. I feel most Misfits fans will appreciate the homage done in this one and if you’re looking for a new band to support, please lend some love to Kaleido who always seem to be working hard at delivering some Rock solid music. Closing up I wonder if its too early to wish you a “Happy Halloween”. Maybe not. Support more independent bands my fiends.
