It’s hard to believe that five years have gone by since the Metal world lost the talented vision of Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus, leader of the legendary GWAR. Earlier today, news about a monument to his memory was released and I am sharing this with you below so check it out.
The Press Release:
At 2:00 PM on Friday, August 30th, 2019, GWAR will unveil a monument to the band’s co-founder and longtime leader Dave Brockie, which will be set in Richmond, Virginia’s famed Hollywood Cemetery (412 S Cherry St, Richmond, VA). All are invited to the unveiling, and to a free party the next day, August 31st, at the GWARbar (217 W Clay St, Richmond, VA).
The party will feature a performance by RAWG, the greatest GWAR tribute band of all time. Friday, August 30th marks what would have been Dave Brockie’s 56th birthday. The erection of this monument has been a long time coming, and we are grateful and happy we can finally do this for Dave.
We thank the many people who donated time and money to make this a reality. We hope the marker will provide a long-needed place for Brockie’s friends, family, and fans to pay their respects to this wonderful and deeply talented human being, and of tcourse, to Dave’s famous creation; Oderus Urungus, who will always be remembered as one of the greatest frontmen in rock and roll history.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As a lifelong fan of comic books, monster movies and Science Fiction works, I 100% appreciated the absolute mayhem that Brockie delivered with the band GWAR. His character of Oderus was irreplaceable but fortunately for the world of fans that fall prostrate before them, the vision continues and the band still tours and lays waste to their hapless fans in every city that they choose to conquer. As a matter of face, speaking of tours, the band only recently announced the “Use Your Collusion” tour which you can learn more about by clicking HERE. Mark these dates on your calendar my fiends if you intend on going to them to raise the banners high in his memory once more. At the time of this writing I am unsure if I would be able to attend. Let me know what your plans are though.
