It’s been about six months or so since I discussed any Into Eternity music with you and for those who might not have seen it, a quick review was penned for the track “Sandstorm” that you can examine on THIS LINK. Since that time the band has gone through a few more changes and the biggest would be the addition of new lead singer Amanda Kiernan to their ranks in place of longtime vocalist Stu Block. This tune “Fukushima” is focused on the nuclear disaster that happened in Japan not too long ago and while it’s a heavy topic for sure, that is something that made this Metal band great. Their tunes were always putting a lot of work into their themes. Here we go with some thoughts on the tune.
The tune begins with a wonderful dual melodic vocal part and one can clearly hear Amanda’s vocals alongside that of Stu’s and I like what I am hearing from her. Stu pretty much takes over the whole song as its vocalist but the darker Death growling was provided by someone who earlier fans of the band will love the contributions of and I am speaking of their former guitarist Rob Doherty. Great to have Rob included here and unless I am mistaken a couple of the shrieking higher notes are not from Stu and instead are coming from Amanda. Clearly the band has made the right choice in this young lady and I CANNOT wait to see her in action on the live stage. Oh, and speaking about the right choice, drummer Newbury is a hurricane on the kit in this one. I’m a former drummer and this guy’s skills on the tune were making my head spin as I tried to figure what he was doing on the number.
With Tim Roth on guitar you get what you paid for and what you expect from him and this is well composed lead wizardry. How this dude didn’t get more praise over the years is beyond me but I guess this is where outlets such as this come into play and serve the greater good. The song was also produced by the bands own Justin Bender so let’s hope some more of this is done from his side of the fence if he can easily do the playing and the producing. The dude knows his stuff for sure. Legacy fans of Into Eternity will be impressed and proud of standing with the band in this constantly changing musical geography and it’s safe to say that the newbies will be blown away. Nice work folks and welcome aboard Amanda Kiernan.
