In the lead-up to the 12-date outing, Faun, who have seen their last five albums certified Gold and Platinum in their native Germany, and their YouTube videos viewed over 225 million times, have released “Tamlin and the Fairy Queen” (https://shorturl.at/VAN3D). The six-minute offering is the band’s first new song, and video, since the release of their album, Pagan. Reviews for the 2022 collection noted a “return to the very dark world of old pagan myths and nature religions” (Power Metal), and the introduction of period instruments such as hurdy-gurdy, moraharpa, bagpipes, and harp.

The band says: “’Tam Lin’ is a traditional English folk ballad that tells the tale of a young man captured by the Fairy Queen. While only the first part of the song is typically recounted, the second part, where he is rescued from the Fair Queen’s enchantment, is even more magical. ‘Tamlin and the Fairy Queen’ is our English interpretation of ‘Tamlin,’” which we released on our album, Pagan.”

Of the live show, which brings a new dimension to the Faun experience, Folk’n’Rock said in a review of the group’s 2023 London performance: “As the lights dimmed, and as an ethereal mist enveloped the stage, it set the atmosphere for an unforgettable evening… deeply rooted in mythology and folklore painting vivid images of a world where nature, magic, and the divine coexists.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m not going to lie and say that I am not interested in this one because I am and if you are one of the folks who is wondering just who Faun is let me say that if you like music like Blackmore’s Night then Faun might be right up your alley as well. Sure I love the blistering, knock you out of your seat Metal whenever its possible to enjoy it in the live sense but I also love to just chill out and relax and let the music take me to another place. With Faun, I am taken back in time almost to a world that might have been a little simpler but hey, I’ll save such commentary for review features and will leave you with the question if this raises your curiosity bar or not. Head over to Spotify and listen to a few tracks and then chime in down below in the comments section. See you next time.
