The 2018 New York Comic Con began yesterday at the Javits Center and now its time to start sharing the visuals that were snagged on the first day of the event. This would mark the ninth year that PiercingMetal was attending the convention and I would once again be representing this medium as a member of the Pop Culture Press. Those who have enjoyed these narratives over the years will already know how I break up the coverage into a number of chapters with no more than “50” images in every post. I do this to allow for easier digestion and tagging and for those who are dressed in amazing cosplay to be able to find themselves. Once the Day One photos are done its onto Day Two and so on until I pass out from exhaustion. My plan is to hit all four days barring some emergency need of my time so let’s get this party started shall we? I won’t be chiming in on every single photo but only when the need for some text is warranted and before we head into the fray, those attending might want to peruse this handy list of guidelines that I compiled over on “The Chronicles Of Piercing Ken” – Trust me it will help you out (click HERE). Onward we go.
The first Cosplayers that I stopped and spoke to were representing “Stephen Universe”. This is a popular cartoon that I have very little background in but heard is a must watch thing.
This Dad and Daughter Star Wars cosplay know me from my covering the mighty Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It’s nice to be remembered for that stuff since the group means so much to us.
The folks at Dark Horse now have a direct collector’s market and these are some of the first collectibles for the fans to purchase.
I’m not really a statue collector but I sure do want this Wight version of Viserion. When the Night King got him during that episode of “Game Of Thrones” I felt a lump in my throat.
My very first Harley Quinn at the NYCC 2018. I am pretty positive that we shall be meeting at least 100 more such cosplayers.
Hey its the cats from Geeks Out. They are the LGBTQ Organization and also the founders of Flame Con.
Fans could jump into this pool of Cat in a Banana plushies and I might have considered it myself for a fun photo had not there been a thousand people online to do the same.
I’ve said that I am not the biggest statues collector but wow if I had the money I would be laying it down for some of these amazing sculpts by XM Studios. I am pretty certain you know all the characters so I will not be naming them.
Those were amazing for sure but again you need the proper space and the financials for them. I don’t have either at the moment. I do however have room on my camera card to snap this awesome Harley Quinn and Joker cosplayer.
I ran into those two down near the DC Entertainment pavilion and this year the space was loaded up with Aquaman related items and memorabilia. This LEGO Aquaman was superb and was taller than me.
As you know there is a movie coming out for the King of the Seven Seas and I am hoping against hope that the fun trailer stands up for the rest of the film. Remember, the “Justice League” trailer looked okay but the end result was on the abysmal side.
DC Comics has a new streaming service launching during the convention and if you signed up to try the free week, you would get a cool specialized reprint of “New Teen Titans” #1 and a fancy Robin emblem. I signed up but come on folks, only a week? I am pretty sure that Netflix gave me more than that when I first gave it a go.
To my knowledge, “Titans” will be premiering in a few days and it will be released week by week as opposed to the way Netflix does it by presenting the full season. No bringing on the binge with this service. I will give it a whirl but with it being very new I am not expecting to find a whole lot of stuff on it. Let’s see what happens and stay tuned for my overview.
Now this was an awesome find. Down on one of the levels, the folks at Cheerios had a “Family Room” set up and in there were boxes and boxes of assorted flavors of Cheerios cereal. I liked this as its one of the better cereals for you to eat and this is one of the things I like to carry on adventures like this as a snack along the way. I made a wide variety mix of the stuff you see below.
Okay, this will be the end of my first installment but as you know there are so many more to come. Let’s close up now and take a breath and return back tomorrow with another chapter. Before you head onto the next thing that interests you on the web, I encourage you to click through to some of the websites that are linked below so you can learn more about the people and companies showcased in this chapter. I also hope that you’ll come lend some love to our Official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts because I’d love for you to be along for the adventures as they happen. See you next time. I should point out that this years NYCC has a brand-new side event called “Anime Fest @ NYCC x Anime Expo” which is a lot to say right off the top and this event is essentially an Anime Convention. Unless I am mistaken the general public with the NYCC passes were able to go over there and explore but the folks with ONLY the Anime Expo passes could not pay a visit to NYCC. My media pass allowed me the chance to go over there but it was a good mile up the road from the Javits and unless I finish early here I will not be able to dedicate the time. Let’s see what happens.
Update: In 2021 a video photo gallery was uploaded to the Official PiercingMetal YouTube Channel to help build up the content there and to offer fans of the New York Comic Con a different way to enjoy the presentation. This clip is from Day One of our 2018 explorations. We ask site visitors to subscribe to the channel, click the notification bell and leave a comment and like the video to allow for more milestones to be reached.
