Exploring Five Points Festival @ Pier 36: Part 1 (5/20/2017)

Okay my friends, we are now going to present you with the fun-filled visual findings from the first-ever “Five Points Festival”.  The convention was taking place on Pier 36 down on the Lower East Side and it would be the first time that I ever went down this way for an event.  It was pretty  easy to get to by mass transit and then would be a few minutes walk.  Check out one of the promo pieces of art to warm up to what is coming in these photos.   As you can see the premise was Designer Toys, Comics, Street Art, Beer and an overall NYC vibe.  This is going to be interesting for sure.  Here we go.

This is artist John Holmstrom, and you Punk Rock fans might recognize some of his work.  The most visible piece from him is probably the cover of that album by Ramones called “Road To Ruin.  It’s an iconic piece for sure and I was glad to meet him at the convention today.

John even had some of the legacy issues of the “Punk” Magazine on hand for those who were interested in them.  I know that I was.

These images are from the Kolorstorm Booth which is run by an old friend of ours Louis Gasparro.  He goes by the artist name KR.ONE.

I love Iron Maiden and I just think some of the Tokidoki stuff is super awesome so running into a fan at the convention with a shirt that reflected both of these things was a hoot.  Come Toy Fair next year I am definitely going to ask them how to get these for myself.

Hey it’s Amy Reeder, and she is holding the Marvel Comics “Timely Comics” edition of “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” that she was the artist on.

Some seriously cool Kaiju artwork at Robo7 which is the art of John Bellotti Jr.

Here’s Amy Chu who we last saw at the NY Comic Con.  We met her at the Dynamite Comics booth where she was signing some of the KISS comics that she was working on.  It was good to see her at FPF.

The GWAR comic book series is not yet out on the stands but its called “GWAR: Orgasmageddon”  and fans at FPF could secure an Ashcan Edition of it if they were interested.  I neglected to do that and I should have since there are always a lot less of those.

This deadly stunner is known as Estrogina.  She was quite the character and would berate and scream at the various passerby to make sure they knew to stop and see what the upcoming comic was all about.  I kept a safe distance away from that sword that’s for sure.

For my last photo I’ll leave you all with a reminder to “Punch Every Nazi” as these buttons at the Matt Miner table denote.  I’ll be adding one to my lanyard at the convention once I sit down.  It was nice to meet Matt and chat for a moment or three about the upcoming “Gwar: Orgasmageddon” comic book series.

That’s all that I will be sharing in this chapter of the adventures. Those of you who have been following my posts from the NY Comic Con know full well that I try to keep the images to about “50” per post to allow for ease of enjoyment and letting the people in any photographs to find themselves. It’s also much easier on the tagging but like I said a lot of you know that already. I will return tomorrow with another installment until I run out of pictures and be sure to hit our Official Instagram and give it a “Follow” and some likes to the images. All of the ones on the profile are different from what you see here and we just love using Instagram. Okay, let me close up now and say that it doesn’t hurt to click some of the websites that are linked down below to show these parties you care.

Editor’s Update: In 2021 I served up some convention flashback photo galleries and our first experience at Five Points Festival was added to these features. Please enjoy the video and be sure to subscribe to the channel and click the notification bell so you don’t miss anything going forward.
