If you’ve been keeping up with PiercingMetal on the social networking side, you know that it’s been a busy week already as over the last few days I’ve been spending time exploring the Book Expo that was being held at the Javits Center. While some of the discoveries at that convention have made their way here, a larger part of it gets posted on our Lifestyle Blog partner website “The Chronicles” of Piercing Ken. With the Book Expo completed it was time to get down to business at the still new Five Points Festival which has returned for its second year as a convention. This year it would move to the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and this space is very well known to me as its the same place where I attend the NYC Hot Sauce Expo every year. The Five Points Festival is loaded with sights and designer toys galore. Let’s take a walk.
The folks at Robo7 always have a lot of things that I like since they focus on the great Godzilla.
Hey look its our friends from Tokidoki who we usually only see at NY Comic Con and of course Toy Fair. It’s always great to see the cute coolness that they are dishing out.
There were scores of Funko Pops to be had at the Toy Tokyo booth.
You know him by now I am sure but if you are new to this stuff he is the great Ron English.
Metal and comic books come to life thanks to writer Matt Miner and his “GWAR Orgasmageddon” series under Dynamite Comics publishing.
This anthology edition called “Mine!” is a collaboration by many artists and writers and also was worked on by a couple of friends of mine from the scene.
Hey look, its the folks from Anime NYC serving up some cool posters and advance ticket sales for their 2018 Convention. I attended last year and it was a blast. I look forward to attending this one later in the year. As you can see by the poster, it happens AFTER the NY Comic Con so you can do both if you are interested.
That’s Peter Tartara and noted cosplayer Vampy Bit Me.
One of the highlights was the massive Colossus Rex statue and he hails from the long ago property Colorforms “The Outer Space Men”.
He stood at just over 6′ if I had to gauge the size. The original was a rubber figure that could be posed in several limited ways and I had a dozen of them over my childhood years. They are worth a considerable penny now but mine are so long gone.
I’ll close up the first chapter at this point but don’t worry I have a couple of more to share with you from my days exploration. Those readers who’ve seen all of our New York Comic Con postings know how I like to place no more than “50” or so images in each one to keep it easier to absorb and the Five Points Festival will follow the same principles. While you wait for the next installment, please click through to some of the websites that have been linked below because they are all up to something interesting when it comes down to it. Also, you might want to follow along with our social networks to see more coolness from the event along with scores of other stuff. Just give some follows and likes to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. See you next time around.
