As already noted over on “The Chronicles Of PiercingKen”, I was once again exploring The Book Expo (which was previously known as Book Expo America) as a member of the press. I’m an avid reader and I love exploring this event to see what is coming out based on bands and comic book characters that I enjoy. This year, I learned of a Marvel Comics panel that was happening so I sat down and listened to what some amazing authors had to say.
The assembled scribes included legendary “Goosebumps” creator R.L. Stine, Margaret Stohl, Jason Reynolds and Rainbow Rowell (pictured from left to right). Each of them was working on or had just finished titles featuring Man-Thing, Captain Marvel, Miles Morales: Spider-Man and the Runaways.
R. L. Stine had written the most recent “Man-Thing” story which was a mini-series. According to what he said, he had never written a comic book character before.
Margaret Stohl was the scribe on the brand new “Mighty Captain Marvel” tales and this is likely going to be a popular one because that hero is headed for the big screen in the near future.
Jason Reynolds is working on the Miles Morales: Spider-Man and this character is a hot creation in the minds of the younger set.
Last but not least here is Rainbow Rowell who is penning the return adventures of “The Runaways” (and no, I don’t mean the one that Joan Jett and Lita Ford were a part of). This is a team of super-powered youths and the perils they face. I didn’t follow the original series but there seems to be a lot of excitement about this returning. I’ll give it a shot. Why not.
It was awesome to chat with the great R. L. Stine before and after the panel. It was one of the biggest highlights for me as a media person covering this type of convention.
We managed to get a photo together but sadly I didn’t have one of his books on my person to get it signed. Oh well. This will have to suffice.
We also got a moment with Jason and wished him the very best on this new Miles Morales tale. I have a feeling that this character is going to be bigger than most of us might have hoped he would. Only time will tell.
That brings me to the end of this part of the presentation. I hope that you enjoyed it and that you will be looking into some of the titles that these incredible scribes will be releasing. I’ve made sure to add their official websites so you can follow their upcoming happenings and appearances and even some Amazon.com code links to make the purchase process all the more easy to do. Remember to follow PiercingMetal on our social networking accounts of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram since there are numerous reports “from the field” and I think you’d want to be a part of the moment as we experience it. Until next time.
