It seems like it was only a little more than a week ago when we shared across our socials that drumming legend Ginger Baker had been admitted to hospital in what sounded like life-threatening circumstances. Sadly, I am here to share the news that the musician has passed away. The statement from his family on his Official Facebook was a simple one.
“We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words to us all over the past weeks.”
Born Peter Edward Baker, “Ginger” was without peer on the drums. Though I never ever managed to catch Ginger performing outside of video clips and hearing countless tunes on the radio across my life, I always enjoyed the level of creativity that he put forward. Growing up in music at the time that I did, we were fortunate enough to have numerous Classic Rock radio stations (and it was just called Rock at the time by the way). On these stations the music of Cream was a mainstay. Baker was 80 years old and had been in ill-health for a number of years and was no longer performing as result. He was one of the founders of Cream and more about his life is worthwhile reading on his Official Wiki which is linked below. Someone recently said to me that all of our youthful legends seem to be leaving and yeah, he was correct about this for sure. On behalf of the PiercingMetal Media Command HQ we wish his family, friends and worldwide fans the most sincere of condolences during this time. Thank you for your achievements in music Mr. Baker and for being one of drummings most memorable figures. May you Rest In Peace.
