DMB, Pat Benatar & Doobie Brothers Lead Rock Hall Fan Vote

rock and roll hall of fame

It was back in October when we first shared the news when the Nominees for the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced. The full overview that I posted can be perused HERE in case you’d like a little more in-depth views about the announcement. I’m returning to the topic with just under a month to go to share the most current standings in the Fan Vote process. As you might recall, the general public has a chance to vote on their favorite artists in the hope that it helps them secure a spot in the vaunted Rock Hall. Let’s take a look at the Top 5 first.

Here’s a clearer idea of how the voting is coming along just in case the graphic isn’t too easy to decipher.

Dave Matthews Band – 723,018
Pat Benatar – 640,457
The Doobie Brothers – 572,170
Soundgarden – 545,026
Judas Priest – 492,521

From the looks of it, I feel that the fans of Soundgarden and Judas Priest better get to rallying behind those two artists because there is a couple of hundred thousand more votes for Dave and Pat. Of course, I’d love to see Pat get into the Rock Hall but DMB not so much. Now let’s take a glance at the rest of the nominees/contenders.

Whitney Houston – 444,768
Depeche Mode – 427,318
Thin Lizzy – 404,566
Motorhead – 375,716
Todd Rundgren – 317,668
Nine Inch Nails – 301,599
T. Rex – 263,128
The Notorious B.I.G. – 214,627
Kraftwerk – 124,827
Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan – 120,546
MC5 – 117,496

As you can see from this rundown, the Whitney and Depeche Mode numbers are not too far off from that of Priest and can actually push the bringers of the British Steel down out of the “Top 5” with another 50-75K votes each. I’m surprised at how few fans rallied behind Biggie on the fan vote and yeah the same can be said for Thin Lizzy and Motorhead. They have quite a bit of ground to catch up on and be in the Top 5 but then their own placement up there moves someone else out and who could that possibly be? At the end of the day its been reported that all of the fan votes merely amount to one submission for a single artist and generally, the artist that tops the Top 5 is the one that ends up going into the Rock Hall. Then there is the chance that NONE of the Fan Vote Top 5 are even submitted as inductees by the committee. Let’s hope that some of our favorites also make it in and as I close this up you can let me know what you think about the process so far. See you next time and oh yeah before I go, here is my vote.
