The Press Release:
MILWAUKIE, Ore., (November 21, 2016)—Legendary heavy metal band Slayer has teamed up with Metalocalypse writer Jon Schnepp and Twilight Zone artist Guiu Vilanova for a three-issue Dark Horse Comics series, Slayer: Repentless, with covers by Eisner Award–winning British comics artist Glenn Fabry. The first issue, with a variant cover by Eric Powell (The Goon), is scheduled for release on January 25, 2017.

“It’s been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse/Nuclear Blast,” said writer Jon Schnepp. “Using the band’s music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the Repentless music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family, and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books’ pages.”

With its story of a raging road trip down a bloodstained highway, a tale of the doomed and the damned, the Slayer: Repentless series is an expansion of Slayer’s Repentless videos, written and directed by BJ McDonnell (Hatchet III). The band made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, with a subsequent sold-out performance at the House of Blues, in support of the Dark Horse Comics series. Slayer: Repentless #1 (of 3) is available for preorder at DarkHorse.com. For all press queries, please contact the Dark Horse publicity department.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Hey I’m game. It will be interesting to see what this mini-series is all about and how the band Slayer is portrayed in this fashion. I’m a big fan of the comic book medium as you readers already full well know and have been a staunch advocate of the various adventures of KISS in comics for as long as I can remember. The Slayer videos that are referenced are pretty intense stuff and if the comic book is going to bring them to larger life in printed form we might have something worthy of keeping safe and secure in the long boxes under bag and backing board. Comic Collectors know what I mean in that statement. I am guessing its going to be a little like “Sons Of Anarchy” and more gritty. No fanciful worlds and sorcery stuff since that doesn’t make sense against the premise of Slayer music. So what do you comic book legions think about the idea of a Slayer comic book? Does it tickle your fancy at all? Will you be purchasing a copy when it hits the stands and more important to me, what do you non-comic collecting Slayer fans think about it. Each side of the fence can let us know their thoughts down in the comments section below and don’t forget to order a copy of Slayer’s brand new album on Nuclear Blast Records which is also called “Repentless”.

Can the adventures of Ghost, Babymetal or perhaps a reunited Misfits be far from happening on the comic book page? Only time will tell…..
