Hey there my fine readers, I just wanted to keep you apprised of some things that are going on with the convention circuit. So it was about the middle of May when I submitted interest once again in being present at the largest Pop Culture event of the year, the one and only New York Comic Con. Yesterday, an email from Reed Expositions arrived at the PiercingMetal in-box with the following message.
“You have been approved for a press ticket for New York Comic Con 2025. No further action is required. You will receive a barcode confirmation shortly. We look forward to seeing you at NYCC 2025!”
Some of this is a little bit of a repeat of the text from last year but that is being done in the interests of composing time since I do have much to attend to and believe it or not I am on a family vacation outside of my NYC stomping ground. So the websites most tenured readers already know that PiercingMetal has been attending this mega-convention in a professional capacity since 2010 and has always tried to bring you so into the mix as best as possible. I like to think that the coverage is so comprehensive that it finds you ordering tickets to attend for yourself if you hadn’t already done so. Now while I always love sharing news like this with you to generate some added excitement, I am not doing this in a “I’m better than you are” fashion or being someone who boasts time and time again. Truth be told I see a lot of that coming from the “Influencers” who tend to come off as a bit superior. Also those in the “Fake Press” which is a title a media colleague has long used coined and that means the folks who end up with a Professional or Press Badge and really only run around posing with cosplayers, dressing up themselves and barely posting thorough work which merits the receiving of a badge of this level. I will admit that I also do dress up but its the same outfit as the previous year. That outfit is “Ken Pierce in Band Shirt A B or C” or with a different hat but I digress, I really don’t let those types distract me from the task at hand.
Since it’s only June, its too early to know how the upcoming show will be navigated but my own preliminary goals are to continue to change up the way that I cover this. Last year in addition to the day to day exploring I added a number of exhibitors in as special feature focuses as opposed to placing them right in the DTD stuff. For instance, if I visited a toy company and snapped 75 images of their presence alone, I wanted them to have their own post. It was a different level for me as a creative scribe and I am not sure that I want to do it like this again. I do expect to start seeing numerous announcements about the event and I will post as many as I see for the organizers and the companies that they are broadcasting. When it comes to New York Comic Con coverage the example should be “more is more” as opposed to one or two posts saying you were there or a bunch of Instagrams of yourself or with cosplayers. I think there were 8 photos of me of the 1000 that I featured LOL. New York Comic Con seems to get bigger every single year and I am definitely excited to know that I will be returning for my 15th in-person convention. See you next time.
