Talk about a throwback to my younger days… In the early 80’s I was not only a regular reader of the Marvel Comics “GI JOE: A Real American Hero” comic book series, but I was also a dedicated viewer of the cartoon that brought the illustrated pages to animated life. Though the patriotic heroics of the Joe Team were always inspiring, I’m not shy in admitting that I found the sinister machinations of their adversaries in Cobra Command to always be entertaining and interesting. During one of the episodes Zartan and his Dreadknocks formed a Heavy Metal band called Cold Slither and their music was hypnotic and designed to bring you under the control of Cobra. All of this reflection found me excited to learn that Reigning Phoenix Music was bringing the band “to life” and working alongside Hasbro on a number of promotional items. The song in and of itself is a catchy one and you will probably be humming it after a few short listens.

At the time of this release I don’t know who the players are and with the accents that are very pronounced fear that it might actually be the Dreadknocks and that we’ve been fooled into thinking that they don’t exist and well, if they do then so does Cobra and that there is a secret subliminal message deep within the track…..Yikes. It’s my hope that additional music comes down the line for this since its fun and its different and will make things for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con a little more interesting. Back in February I shared the news about a special Collector’s Set of action figures which if you didn’t see can be perused by clicking HERE. I enjoyed this one and the flashback that it offered me. I should also mention that Hasbro continues to release GI JOE: Classified Series action figures while Image Comics is publishing the monthly ongoing and limited series’ offerings.
