Now that the Thanksgiving celebrating is out of the way, it’s time to start focusing on the Christmas holidays and what better way to do this than with a brand-new holiday single from the Helsinki Vampires in The 69 Eyes. Having been a fan of their Gothic Rock and Roll style for more than a decade now, I was glad to find this one hitting the streaming services and felt that it would be a fun way to lead us into the season. Though we haven’t had the band here in far too many years, the members of The 69 Eyes; Jyrki 69, Bazie, Timo-Timo, Jussi 69 and Archzie, all have a deep love of our teeming metropolis. Here’s a few thoughts on the Nuclear Blast Records released tune.
I love the beginning jingling bells with the bands familiar guitar riffing coming into play and find that it makes you feel the holiday vibe while at the same time bringing you into their brand of Goth ‘n Roll. There is something about a 69 Eyes track that doesn’t sound like any other band and you realize this especially when singer Jyrki 69 begins his deep baritone crooning. In the tune he reflects upon being around the world and meeting scores of women (such a Rockstar eh) and that despite their number there was never one like the person in NYC. He speaks on some citified points and all the while little drummer boy Jussi keeps the pace nice and steady. It’s safe to say if you enjoy most of the bands output that you will enjoy this one. The track is just over three minutes long and is a worthy addition to your Holiday Playlist.
