Our friends over at The Toy Insider had recently announced a brand-new event called the “Spring Fling Toy Preview” and it would be held at an event space that I never visited before as well so when the invitation came to come out and explore for the purposes of the website and its bevy of social media profiles, I could not resist. From the get go I felt that this was a great idea since the usual winter months Toy Fair was not happening and would be returning in early 2025. Of course there was a Toy Fair back in the Fall of 2023 which dedicated readers of the site already know based on the content that was posted across the realm. Once I was situated in Lavan Midtown, I began exploring and found that most of the items being exhibited were more suited to our companion website “The Chronicles of Piercing Ken”. I’ll link to that later on but now its time to showcase what we found at a toy company that has been discussed on numerous occasions, Playmates Toys.
It’s without question that I love what Playmates Toys is releasing these days and over the years we’ve seen assorted variations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Voltron and Star Trek. Currently they are the holder of the license for the upcoming “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” film and brought a lot of the line with them to the Spring Fling. Let’s take a look.

Tada!!! Here is a little too far away snap of the table. They had more stuff from other licenses but I will get to those soon enough.
These are the 6″ and 7″ action figures of the main cast and their new villains Shimo and Scar King. Of all the collectibles from the film these are the items that I key into the most since I prefer this size in an action figure. The larger ones not too much but that’s a personal taste.
Here are some of the bigger action figures and face masks that make sounds and let you battle it out with your friends if you care too. No I didn’t get a photo of myself wearing the Godzilla mask but I should have. Maybe if I see it again somewhere I promise.
This Kong looks great and no he is NOT wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. That sure would have been funny if he was though.
From the collector’s standpoint I’m very interested in the set from the 6″-7″ inch line and if I get my hands on any of them I will do another overview and maybe even a video. Now its onto the next property they have.
Generally speaking I would normally post anything about “The Miraculous Ladybug” over on Piercing Ken but I already have plenty of other companies posted over there and this is the only Playmates Toys post I will be doing.
Today at the Spring Fling they were showcasing the Paris HQ Playset which looks like the Eiffel Tower and has lots of cool details and enhancements. It does not come with the action figures of Ladybug, Cat Noir and the other characters but many of them are presented in these few images.
The appeal of the “Miraculous Ladybug” is not gender specific by my observation so I think boys as well as girls can appreciate the coolness of this fun character. There are numerous other related items for this license but they were not on display today. Maybe they will be during the Toy Insider “Sweet Suite” that happens in July. If we attend
So I realize that this next disclosure will age me out a little bit but I remember Playmates Toys very first editions of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” action figures. At the time they only had the four of them and I only ever remember seeing them in the comic book shops. I did own these and opened the packages and am not sure where those actually remain at this point in time but I digress on this. It was exciting to see the latest and greatest from this license.
One of the latest lines they are offering up are the “Mutations: Mix and Match” which let you interchange parts across a wide variety of action figures. Your only limits would be the imagination and the parts you have to choose from. It’s a cool idea but I lean more towards having the exact figure from the comic book pages or animated series. That’s just me.
Now while I had mentioned that I am not really collecting much of the TMNT line, this is something that I can get behind. This is an action figure version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles original sketch. It looks awesome and I might want to add this set to my keepsakes.
These are the “Tootin’ Tot Turtles” and if you squeeze them they uhm “toot”. It’s a fun idea but definitely for a younger age skew and not really the hardcore collectors. These would likely make good fun stocking stuffers for the holidays.
