In one or maybe even both of my recent missives regarding Finland’s The Rasmus, I had pointed out that they were off of the radar for many of us and it was easy for this to be the case with their absence from stateside touring for many years. Now with the partnership of Playground Music and Better Noise Music the fans on this side of the pond are getting musical teasers with singles like “Rest In Pieces” and “Creatures Of Chaos” that have already been discussed here on the website. Of course, I’ll leave my thoughts about those two numbers to your own research when you click the hyperlinked text because now I’m here to talk about the third single “Break These Chains”. The tune was released today and also features another Finnish artist, Niko Vilhelm from Blind Channel. Starting off slower with a very smooth intro this one builds up rather quickly and it feels like it was built for the live stage. Having seen so many artists in concert over the years I can almost envision the light display for this kind of tune. Its musically sound found me bopping along as it played through. Lauri and Niko share the vocals and it works since both singers seem to be in the same sonic pocket. Having never caught Blind Channel in concert this only raised my own interest about them since Nu-Metal is not really a sound I expected to find coming from Finland after all the Gothic and Supersonic Symphonic stuff that they’ve come to be known for over the years. Now I don’t know about the rest of you out there but for me, I rather enjoy being able to hear new music from a band that is one that I enjoyed but lost track of based on the everyday world around me. According to my records here on the website, it was way, way, WAY back in 2006 when I caught The Rasmus performing at a place called the Retox Rock Bar which I think has been closed for more than a decade but I digress. When I last brought up The Rasmus it was for the single “Rest In Pieces” which I liked but now its time to hear some new music. Continue reading “Creatures of Chaos” (Single) by The Rasmus→
Talk about a throwback to my younger days… In the early 80’s I was not only a regular reader of the Marvel Comics “GI JOE: A Real American Hero” comic book series, but I was also a dedicated viewer of the cartoon that brought the illustrated pages to animated life. Though the patriotic heroics of the Joe Team were always inspiring, I’m not shy in admitting that I found the sinister machinations of their adversaries in Cobra Command to always be entertaining and interesting. During one of the episodes Zartan and his Dreadknocks formed a Heavy Metal band called Cold Slither and their music was hypnotic and designed to bring you under the control of Cobra. All of this reflection found me excited to learn that Reigning Phoenix Music was bringing the band “to life” and working alongside Hasbro on a number of promotional items. The song in and of itself is a catchy one and you will probably be humming it after a few short listens. Continue reading “Cold Slither” (Single) by Cold Slither→

I’ll preface my excitement about this new single from Finland’s The Rasmus by saying that it’s been quite some time since I’ve heard their name or even listened to their sound. I’m a fairly big fan of many bands that come out of the country and of them all I have long felt that The Rasmus was closer to being radio friendly than many others. The new single is called “Rest In Pieces” which is licensed to Better Noise from the Scandinavian based Playground Music. As I digitally gave the track a “spin” on Spotify I was happy to find some of the vibe that I remember from many years ago along with a more contemporary heaviness. If you’ve yet to indulge in the music coming from Detroit’s high-energy Alt-Punk band Kaleido, then there is no better time to start than right now as the band has offered up a cover of one of the legendary Misfits most seminal numbers “Halloween”. Starting off with heavy chord from guitarist Johnson and some sweet intro drums by Fava, the track rolls over you with the necessary speed for a Punk number like this. Singer Chriss sings with her own register and doesn’t aim at emulating Danzig at all which is refreshing. While its sometimes necessary to do so, I prefer when a band plays a cover like this as themselves and I’ve been a fan of Christina’s voice for a number of years now.
