Hello again dear friends in the geekier sector of our readership. I am proud to be one of you and also to continue along with the day by day coverage of the currently in progress Anime NYC convention that began this past Thursday. It’s currently on its third day and as you read this post I’m actually making my way into the city to explore as much as possible. This post continues to bring you the findings from Day One so you might want to click HERE as it will launch a new browser tab with everything that is posted from Anime NYC 2025. For this installment I decided to head down to the Gaming and Community Hall. You might remember me pointing out that last year, the Play NYC convention was integrated into Anime NYC. I didn’t find it open when I got there so that will be something for the other days.

I didn’t know about the existence of a “Quiet Room” before today but I think that its a great idea for those who need a bit of an “away” space. Conventions are overwhelming and if you have things about you that make you a bit more sensitive then good on the organizers for setting this space up.

The awesome Anime NYC convention had returned to New York City once again and at the time of this writing/posting, is currently in the middle of its second day. This post however will be bringing you some of the images and thoughts that took place on the first day. It’s here where I suggest that you click this TAG as it will launch a new browser tab and everything that I post from Anime NYC 2025 will be lined out in the order that it was posted. So as expected I was once again bringing the PiercingMetal outlet into the convention as a member of the media and I am one of those folks who will start talking to cosplayers even on the train in.

My chatty vibe found me meeting a bunch of Spider-Man family cosplayers and while I felt that they were heading into the wrong event, I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to snap them. The same applies for this next kind pair who said they were attending for the first time if I am remembering correctly.

Scenes from Toy Insider’s “Sweet Suite” 2025: Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!

As previously mentioned, the PiercingMetal outlet has been one of the attending press at the incredible Toy Insider event that is known as “Sweet Suite” for the past nine years. It’s here that we learn about the latest and greatest toys that will be coming out and sometimes these events also feature some special surprises. In my previous post I shared the intel on the new Playmates Toys and Pokémon stuff and now I’m sharing the visuals that were found at the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! booth. They had a whole mini-museum of oddities that one might find while exploring such a place.

For many years, New York City had its own Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum and I had visited it on numerous occasions for some special Mezco Toyz events. Sadly, they would close their doors in 2021 and leave a massive empty space on a once flourishing strip. Sure, 42nd Street is still busy but with this place, the old McDonald’s and our beloved B.B. King’s being gone its not the same but I digress.

In addition to these massive tomes on the table, Ripley’s had almost two dozen oddities to examine and I’ve presented the whole display for you in the following photographs. Enjoy.

Compiled Video Briefs from “Free Comic Book Day” 2025 Adventures

This past Saturday was “Free Comic Book Day” and as a pretty close to lifelong comic book fan, I made a small pilgrimage around our Metropolis to visit a few of the local comic shops to see how they were doing things for this always special occasion. Before I begin, let me explain to the newbies about what this is. “Free Comic Book Day” is as simple as it sounds. One gets to enjoy a batch of free comic books at a participating retailer but its important to know that each shop has their own way of doing things. Sometimes you get a whole stack or something just a few issues that you can pick from the releases. My first stop on that First Saturday in May would be Galaxy Comics in Park Slope.

As a Bay Ridge resident, my regular comic book store is their Bay Ridge branch located right next to the Alpine Theater but they have not been doing FCBD at this location for a couple of years now. To enjoy the offerings from them I had to head down to Park Slope. Galaxy was permitting a maximum of “5” comics from the FCBD releases and it was already crowded just past 10AM. Can you predict the five choices that I would make at this location?

Rolling Quartz @ Queens Theatre (4/5/2025)

The band Rolling Quartz hails from South Korea and are what amounts to being a Pop Rock group, but after some careful listens on Spotify and enjoying the videos posted on YouTube on their own and other peoples feeds, I felt that they deserved a more worthy clarification of Hard Rock Idols group. Truth be told my background on the band was quite limited even though I had shared along tour announcements in the past when I chanced upon them. Sometimes we go automatic here to get the content flowing and when this new tour listed a date in Queens, I knew that I had to get myself over there and learn firsthand what the magic was all about. Research discovered that they had been here once before in 2023 with two gigs at the Mercury Lounge but I was covering something else and never looked into the show and prior to that was an appearance at a popular Anime convention in another city. The regional gig for New York would be at the Queens Theatre in the Park, and I had never been there before for anything so despite it being a bit of an MTA transit journey, the idea of a brand-new artist to my adventuring and a new venue made this all the more appealing an affair. After sorting out all of the necessary details I headed to Queens which for me is an R train to N to 7 and then a substantial walk through the park. It’s relatively close to Citi Field and a Mets game was happening that night so a lot of people were out and about.
