Airing Tonight: “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” Season 6

Photo - Gene Simmons Family Jewels

Six, six, six, the number of the season and while I realize that the reference is for a completely different band I could not resist using it to let you wonderful readers know that sixth season of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” begins tonight on the A&E Network. Do you watch this reality program yet?

To repeat myself, the premise remains the same as the previous five seasons and it follows the life and times of Gene Simmons, musician and businessman along with his significant other Shannon Tweed and gives you an inside look into his happenings on an almost day to day basis. I love seeing what makes Simmons tick and hearing more about how he thinks. I’m not going to spoil anything for you however and will leave that honor to your Facebook friends. It’s pretty fascinating stuff for sure and that is all you will get from me in this announcement.

Out Now: DC Comics’ “Flashpoint” Begins (5/2011)

It’s time for The Flash to take center stage as the new mini-series and multiple title crossover “Flashpoint” begins.

Comic - Flashpoint 1 - 2011
“Flashpoint” Begins

According to its description “The series details an altered DC Universe in which only Barry Allen, Kid Flash and Booster Gold seem to be aware of significant differences between the regular timeline and the altered one, including Cyborg’s place as the world’s quintessential hero, Superman’s detention by the government and a Thomas Wayne version of Batman who spends “his days running Wayne Casinos.”

Not only will we find the aforementioned “Flashpoint” mini-series being published, but there will also be a new grouping of tie-in titles that have been written solely based on the events in this new bizarre DC Universe. The core miniseries is written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kubert. It will all lead us to the relaunch of the DC Universe in a few months entitled “The New 52”. Will you be checking out this sure to be fast paced run of a story? Sorry I had to be corny for a second. Your thoughts on it are welcome in the comments.

Nu Image Films “Conan The Barbarian” Official Trailer (8/2011)

conan the barbarian movie logo

Way back in 1982, the world rallied behind Arnold Schwarzenegger when he delivered the first ever live-action “Conan The Barbarian” film. Now it’s Jason Momoa’s turn to take on the classic Robert E. Howard creation in a movie that will bear the same name. Check out the just released trailer for this film along with premise, and casting.

The Plot: Conan is the son of Corin, chief of a barbarian tribe. The youth is a skilled but violent warrior, who his father believes is not ready to wield his own sword. Their village is attacked by Khalar Zym, a warlord who wishes to reunite the pieces of the Mask of Acheron to revive his dead wife and conquer Hyboria. The Mask, crafted by a group of sorcerers and used to subjugate the world, was broken into many pieces, scattered among the barbarian tribes. After locating Corin’s piece of the mask, and murdering the entire village, Zym leaves. Conan, the only survivor, swears revenge.

Opening Today: “Thor” (5/6/2011)

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor….”

Those are the words inscribed upon the legendary Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor and the only weapon worthy of a Thunder God. Today the film that presents his adventures to the world will open as Marvel Comics continues their delivery of live action super hero films.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth as The Mighty Thor and his is joined by Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). I’ve tried to avoid any advance insight but its been reported that the film will take place both on Asgard and on Earth which is good to find being the case. In terms of comic book characters I have always enjoyed Thor as a super hero even if I was not following him as long as I was the likes of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four or Hulk. Needless to say I’m pretty excited for this as it brings us one step closer to “The Avengers” which they say will be coming at us in 2012 some time. So far they have been doing a bang up job with these films and each one has led us into the next thanks to the closing teaser scene. My hope is that you readers have seen “Iron Man”, “Incredible Hulk” and “Iron Man 2” already and if not, what are you waiting for? “Thor” is directed by Kenneth Branagh and produced by Kevin Feige.

To avoid spoilers to the larger plot of the film I’ve closed the ability to comment on this posting. Should I end up posting a review of any kind on the site, you will be more than welcome to leave us your own thoughts on that post. Hopefully I will see the film before I hear too many details myself. I seldom get to go on the opening day even though I would love to for stuff like this.
