A few months ago, I gave my first thoughts about Hard Rock singer Diamante when I did a summary on her single “Haunted”. It was in anticipation of checking her out live during her appearance on a tour but sometimes the best laid plans do not work out. Though I’d also been meaning to reviewing her full debut on Better Noise Records, time unfortunately escaped me which brings us to now, the last day of December on the last day of 2018 in music to formulate some notions on her cover of the traditional classic “Auld Lang Syne”. Though she released this single a couple of weeks ago, I decided that there was no better way to end a fantastic year of music and media than by discussing it today so let’s chat about it shall we.
Starting off with a softer and more impassioned voice, Diamante brings you right into her version of the track and while at points it gets a little heavier and her voice a bit louder, she sticks to the traditional vibe of the tune. I can admit that I found myself looking for someone to raise a glass with when I first listened to it and did some reflective thinking on the year that will be leaving us soon. The original song is based on a Scottish poem and the translation amounts to “For Old Times”. I just love Diamante’s register on this one and hope that more fans will be rallying behind her not only for her take on this classic song but also for the fine work she is doing in general. Well done Diamante, well done. As the year closes up on us, I’d like to wish you and yours the best and brightest that is possible to have. Be good to each other and of course your pets and yourself. Raise a glass with friends “for old times” and don’t bicker about the minutia. Its time wasted when you can instead take a cup of kindness with those who matter the most to you. Happy New Year.
