Though I am not a subscriber to the Apple TV+ streaming service, I was very happy to learn that the prequel series to the recent “Monsterverse” films would be getting a second season. I’m of course talking about “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” which just had a video announcing said second season drop. I’ve shared that down below along with the basic premise and the casting that I culled from the show’s Wikipedia entry. Take a look.
The Premise: In 2015, one year after the re-emergence of Godzilla,[a] half-siblings Cate and Kentaro Randa investigate their missing father Hiroshi’s connection to Monarch, the covert organization monitoring giant monsters known as Titans or MUTOs (“Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms”.) Two generations earlier, Bill Randa and Keiko Miura are scientists involved with the early development of Monarch. Former Army officer Lee Shaw becomes a close ally to the Randa family across both time periods (c/o Wiki).

PiercingMetal Thoughts: In the past I’ve mentioned that I don’t like speaking too much about teaser trailers or announcement trailers even. That being said I do have a couple of thoughts on this brief. I’m still annoyed that something connected to Warner Brothers would be placed on this particular streaming service over their own based on the subscriber base. This network is not as comprehensive in content as a HBO Max or Netflix and doesn’t make sense for me. I’m balking as a lifelong Godzilla, Kong and Gamera fan who will always be at the ready to support any features that they are in. So far I’ve not learned of any home video sets of this but maybe I am not looking hard enough. With brick and mortars like Best Buy no longer selling physical video and music releases I am less inclined to go internet hunting. This brief about the upcoming season did find me wondering what kind of threat the world faces this time. Maybe I need to find a friend with a subscription and ply them with pizza, beers and Chinese food. Okay I am out of here now but wonder what you thought about it. Are you a subscriber?
