Now here is a tour that fans of the Cavalera Brothers and many more would like to know about. Apparently, Max and Iggor Cavalera are reuniting for a run called “Return To Roots” that will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their Sepultura classic “Roots”. There’s a lot to absorb in this press release so let me not dance about any longer. Here you go.
The Press Release:
Announcing the Max & Iggor Cavalera RETURN TO ROOTS tour – celebrating the 20th anniversary of the legendary album Roots – to be played in its entirety each night! The North American tour, which kicks off in Las Vegas on September 12, will feature direct support on select dates from The Black Dahlia Murder and Combichrist, with additional support from Allegaeon, All Hail The Yeti and Oni.
Max & Iggor Cavalera will perform their set with their Cavalera Conspiracy brothers, guitarist Marc Rizzo and bassist Johny Chow.
Tickets are on-sale beginning today and can be purchased via each individual venue. Visit your local RETURN TO ROOTS tour venue’s website for more information, or check back to www.maxandiggorreturntoroots.com for updated ticket links as they become available. In addition, very special Meet & Greet passes can be purchased at Max & Iggor Cavalera’s merch booth each night. Fans will be given the opportunity to take a photo with Max & Iggor, and they will each sign a Roots CD, cassette or vinyl. This applies to only the Roots album and one autograph and one photo will be permitted per person. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to have your Roots album signed by the men behind the music.
“Metalheads! It’s time,” declares Max Cavalera. “20 years ago, we released the Roots album and changed the face of metal forever. Now, we’re returning to “the roots” to show everybody the magic and inspiration of the Roots live experience! You cannot miss this RETURN TO ROOTS 2016!”
Iggor Cavalera adds, “I am very proud to play Roots again, to reaffirm that after 20 years, it still moves people! We hit the stage again with Roots to destroy everywhere we pass by!”
Max & Iggor Cavalera are the original founding members of influential RIAA Gold-Certified Brazilian heavy metal legends Sepultura, and specifically the team behind the band’s early albums, including seminal releases Arise, Chaos A.D. and Roots. Since the band’s formation over 30 years ago, the Cavalera brothers have each seen unparalleled successes in the music industry. Max’s more recent work with Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy (also featuring Iggor) and Killer Be Killed, in addition to Iggor’s project MIXHELL, proves the lasting power of the Cavalera legacy.
Later this year, Warner Music will release a special vinyl edition of Roots, in addition to a CD/vinyl box set of classic Sepultura records, with more surprises in store. Stay tuned for a full announcement on the new editions, coming soon.

About RETURN TO ROOTS Support:
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER:
The Black Dahlia Murder are touring in support of Abysmal, which was named one of the best albums of 2015 by MetalSucks, Metal Injection and Metal Insider, and was called “the best death metal of the year” by New Noise Magazine. Earlier this year, the band released a twisted animated music video for “Threat Level No. 3”. The Adam Avilla-directed piece of moving art can be seen on www.metalblade.com. Abysmal is The Black Dahlia Murder’s seventh full length release through Metal Blade Records and debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #45.
The Black Dahlia Murder vocalist Trevor Strnad states, “We are extremely excited to join the Cavalera brothers in the celebration of Roots anniversary. If you would have told me when Roots came out that I’d be touring alongside those two, I wouldn’t have believed you… I am personally very pumped. Don’t be surprised when you see us in the pit!”
COMBICHRIST:
Formed in 2003, Combichrist took founder Andy LaPlegua’s hardcore past and electronica present and merged them into a singular, mechanical music monster. Since releasing the first Combichrist album The Joy of Gunz, LaPlegua and Combichrist have unleashed six subsequent full-lengths, including 2014’s We Love You, and numerous EPs while also cracking Billboard’s Top 10 Dance Singles chart. Their latest studio effort, This is Where Death Begins was produced by Oumi Kapila (Filter) plus Combichrist’s own Andy LaPlegua and mastered by the legendary Vlado Meller (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot.) An apocalyptic behemoth of guitars, electronica, infernal drums and dark elemental force, it is easily Combichrist’s most accomplished effort to date and landed the band a top 30 chart position in Germany.
ALLEGAEON:
Allegaeon recently released the single “Gray Matter Mechanics” from their forthcoming album Proponent for Sentience. The album continues the band’s lyrical themes of space and science with new vocalist Riley McShane, and includes guest performances from Bjorn “Speed” Strid and guitarist Benjamin Ellis. The Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cobalt, Cephalic Carnage) produced album will be released this fall via Metal Blade Records. A funny play through video for “Gray Matter Mechanics” can be seen now on YouTube. The track has also made an appearance on the Devil’s Dozen count down on SiriusXM Liquid Metal and can be purchased on Bandcamp.
Allegaeon guitarist Greg Burgess states, “What can be said about the Cavaleras that hasn’t already been said? Growing up I think I wore out two copies of Sepultura’s Live in Barcelona on VHS. Beneath the Remains and Arise were like my metal bible! So, going out with the Cavaleras is a dream come true. We’re very excited to be included on this tour.”
ALL HAIL THE YETI:
This April, All Hail The Yeti released their long-awaited full-length concept album, Screams From A Black Wilderness, via Minus Head Records. The album is based on classic, spooky horror stories and presents a different story with each track. Screams From A Black Wilderness is produced by Matt Hyde, known for his prior work with renowned groups such as Deftones, Slayer, and Soulfly. You can order Screams From A Black Wilderness now via Bandcamp, Amazon, or iTunes.
ALL HAIL THE YETI frontman Connor Garritty states, “This is like a dream come true! The Cavaleras have been a huge influence on AHTY and the entire metal community for many years. Roots was their biggest record and to be able to be a part of this history is a complete honor for us. We are beyond excited to share the stage with all of the bands on this run. We have a great set planned for all of our fans and we hope to see everyone out there! HAIL!”
ONI:
Progressive metal band Oni’s new album Ironshore is coming this fall – check out the first single “Eternal Recurrence” here. Gleefully contorted, crushingly heavy and insidiously melodic, their debut full-length grabs you from the moment it starts and holds you by the throat. Formed in 2014, the initial vision was one that was deeply rooted in progressive metal but that had a feel all of its own, to rise above a genre that has constantly churned out new groups to an often numbing effect. With Jake Oni handling vocal duties, Martin Andres and Brandon White on guitar, Chase Bryant on bass and Joe Greulich on drums, they are also perhaps the first metal band to feature a Xylo-synth player, in the form of Johnny D, which adds an interesting and intriguing dynamic.
Oni frontman Jake Oni states, “It is such an honor to share the stage with our new brothers Max & Iggor Cavalera, as well as The Black Dahlia Murder, Combichrist, Allegaeon and All Hail The Yeti. We can’t wait to get out on the road and slay!”
*** end of transmission ***
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Truth be told I never really ever followed Sepultura back in the day but I do surely recognize their importance and influence on the Metal scene as we know it. Had this event been coming to a venue near me I would surely have mapped out a game plan to attend and bring some coverage to your attention. So you readers will have to let me know how this one goes if you should make it to one of the gigs. I only hope that who do will manage to see some of the supporting acts because if the Cavalera Brothers have taken the time to put them together then you know you should see what they are all about. Let me know what you think of this tour in the comments section below.
