AMC and DC to give away 100,000 copies of Preacher #1

Comic - Preacher 1 - 2016

Thanks to the fine folks at DC Comics and AMC Network, fans can get a copy of “Preacher” #1 for absolutely free so be sure to ask your local comic book shop for one when you go to pick up your weekly haul on Wednesday. The series was a compelling read for the Vertigo Comics imprint of the company and was written by Garth Ennis with art by Steve Dillon and painted covers by Glen Fabry. It was definitely a title for a more mature audience and since its final issue back in 2000 the full series has been reprinted in several collected editions for you newer readers to add to your library. The title will get its own live television show this coming Sunday and star Dominic Cooper as the “Preacher” Jesse Custer along with Ruth Negga and Joe Gilgun as Tulip and Cassidy. The cover of this free title has been drawn to show the players for the television show.

For those of you who don’t know much about the original comic book title let me quickly recap it for you. “Preacher” tells the story of a Southern preacher named Jesse Custer who’s soul is joined by an entity known as Genesis. His disillusion with the faith leads him on a search for God and he is joined by an ex-girlfriend Tulip and a vampire named Cassidy. We meet all three members of the cast in this first issue along with Sheriff Hugo Root who is a conspiracy believing racist of the highest order. All of these characters will be a part of the show. This first issue also introduces us to the Saint Of Killers who is one intense menace for Custer at every turn. The character is not listed on the original cast list for the upcoming show but perhaps they are holding back that news as a surprise. Since he is a part of the tale from the very beginning of the “Preacher” comic book I think it will be hard to tell the story without him. This issue is the perfect addition to add to your “Free Comic Book Day” haul from a couple of weeks ago. Don’t miss out on this freebie because even with 100K copies its sure to move quickly based on the popularity.
