The world is just about a month away from the release of “Dark Passion Play”, the brand-new album from Finland’s Nightwish. It’s the groups sixth overall release and the first with their new singer Anette Olzon. Back in May I scoped out a single called “Eva” (seen HERE if you missed it) and while I liked the track, will admit that it was a tad slower than I had expected of them in terms of a debut. Now the band has unleased an additional track in “Amaranth” and I’ve a few thoughts about it in comparison.

This one begins with a nice keyboard intro but has a solid crunching heavy vibe soon after which finds you bopping your head in time with the riffs. Anette comes in with a lovely register which as we’ve already noted is a different style from her predecessor and with this number it works out just fine. This is a BIG sound to much of this track and when the chorus comes in, you’ll find it very catchy as a listener. I can almost see this one in the live concert sense bringing everyone in the audience to singing along. Of course, I will need to look up the lyrics first to make sure I am on point, but it does have a nice flow to it. Maybe some of these radio people will finally start to talk about Nightwish over here and catch up to the other parts of the world who’ve discovered their magic so many albums ago. One can hope and now I am super stoked for the full album and am going to start looking into snaring a copy as early as possible.
