I recently finished the second season of The CW Network’s show “Arrow”, the one based on the DC Comics character “Green Arrow” and during that run we met Barry Allen. Allen was a forensic scientist for the Central City Police Department and at the close of his appearances was the victim of a lab accident that will lead him to becoming The Flash. Comic book fans everywhere know exactly what I am talking about but this “Arrow” cameo was the not so subtle lead into his own series as “The Flash” appears in his own show tonight. Check out the poster below and then we can review the premise and cast.

The Premise: After witnessing his mother’s murder, and his father wrongly accused, Barry Allen is taken in by Detective West and his family. As Allen enters adulthood, he becomes a brilliant, yet socially awkward, forensic scientist for the Central City Police Department, whose obsession with his tragic past causes him to become an outcast among his peers. Allen tries to uncover the truth about his mother’s murder and clear his father’s name, which leads him to Harrison Wells’ particle accelerator. When the accelerator causes an explosion, Allen is struck by lightning, and enters a coma for nine months. When he wakes up, he learns he has the ability to move at superhuman speeds, though he is not the only metahuman created in the wake of the explosion. As the violence related to metahuman criminals escalates, though still keeping the promise of finding out why his mother murdered, Allen vows using his gift of speed to protect Central City with the help from a few close friends and associates who share his secrets. PiercingMetal Thoughts: I am willing to bet that in similar fashion to what we see going on in “Arrow”, “The Flash” will continue to build a small screen DC Universe that works well together and brings new characters into the mix as the episodes go by. Over the summer Warner Brothers announced that the upcoming “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” film will exist outside of this television universe and let those shows grow under the power of their own properties and creative directions. I am for some reason alright with this. I never regularly watched “Smallville” when it aired but I know that it tried to do this and just fell shorter than they would have liked. That said I have to admit that the direction being taken with “Arrow” (despite not calling him “Green Arrow”) has grown on me and I am excited for season three of that show. Season 3 of that begins tomorrow in case you are interested. So back to “The Flash”, this looks interesting and I like the effects used in conveying his speed powers. I also like the casting of some of the characters who we know will eventually become other characters. What do you readers think? Does this show interest you at all? If it does you should program your DVR’s since there was no “On Demand” for The CW and that fact almost found me missing the whole S2 of “Arrow”.
