Fans all seem to know the details on how Bruce Wayne became Batman, The Dark Knight that looms over Gotham City’s underworld and can probably recite them to you if asked at any point in the day, but what of the city of darkness that pulsed around him? This new show airing on Fox is entitled simply “Gotham” and it aims to give comics fans some insight on the beginnings of the caped crusader’s eventually protected city and the devious villains who lurk in its shadows. Check out the poster and premise below.
Synopsis
A new recruit in Captain Sarah Essen’s Gotham City Police Department, Detective James Gordon is paired with Harvey Bullock to solve one of Gotham’s most high-profile cases ever: the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. During his investigation, Gordon meets the Waynes’ son, Bruce, now in the care of his butler Alfred, which further compels Gordon to catch the killer. Along the way, Gordon must confront gang boss Fish Mooney, as well as many of Gotham’s future villains, such as Selina Kyle and Oswald Cobblepot. Eventually, Gordon is forced to form an unlikely friendship with Bruce, one that will help shape the boy’s future in becoming the Dark Knight.
Having seen the preview trailer I will admit that this looks interesting and I did grow up on the classic Batman TV series of the 60’s (even though it was already in re-runs by that time). My appreciation of the caped crusader has never waned and for many, many years I collected the comic books that he filled the pages of. These prequel histories are rather interesting if they offer up something unique. The idea that Gotham has always been corrupt, always vile and brewing with evil is no surprise but seeing the young Bruce Wayne grow in this environment will likely be a fascinating narrative. I hope for some keen insight as to why certain individuals became the villains that the good citizens of Gotham fear the most. At least I am hoping so. Here is the cast for the show.

Readers can learn more about the show via its Official Wiki entry below but be wary of reading about the episodes if you have begun adding the show to your DVR for later viewing because they often contain spoilers and no one wants a television show ruined by accident like that. Its better left spoiled by your friends on Facebook that like to make a comment only moments after something major happens. Yeah you know what I am talking about. This television season looks to be the one that DC heroes will be taking over the broadcasts because we not only have the continuation of “Arrow” but in the coming weeks are “Flash”, “Constantine”, “iXombi” and of course this “Gotham” series being discussed. So how about you? Will you be watching the show? Let me know in the comments which have been left open for you to do so.
