The guys in the Finnish Hillbilly band Steve N Seagulls are back with a little bit more of the sound that first made you scratch your chins in disbelief about a year ago with the forthcoming Spinefarm Records release “Brothers In Farms”. The clever title will host a whole bunch of reworked classics in their inimitable style and the first single is Iron Maiden’s seminal concert opener “Aces High”. I’ve tossed a few thoughts together down below. Check it out.
Now before we get started, this sound might still confuse the more traditional Metalhead but it’s a whole lot of fun. It begins with a solitary banjo and quickly gets to the rocking and will find you tapping your feet and bopping your head in sync. Musically speaking this is spot on and doesn’t lose the vibe of the original song as much as it morphs it into something else entirely. The bottom line is that it’s fun and very rousing which I think was the point that Steve N Seagulls were trying to make. This Folk-Country sound might appeal to the fans of groups like Hayseed Dixie and Luther Wright and The Wrongs. I loved it.
At the end of the day if this particular rendition piques your interest you might want to order the digital version for your cloud library down below since the full album isn’t coming for another month at least. Of course, if you are outraged and incensed by the audacity of a Finnish Hillbilly version of an Iron Maiden classic then you can move right along to the next article and we won’t judge you at all. See you next time.
