New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 1

Hey there readers, and a Merry Post-Christmas to you all (if you indeed celebrated the holiday like we do at the PiercingMetal Command HQ); It’s also Boxing Day for some and we wish well to those readers indulging in that holiday. So why are we here you ask….. Well, as 2012 draws to it’s inevitable end, I once again found myself wondering what the people who bring us that sweet, sweet music during the year had on their minds for the coming year of 2013. As I mentioned in a reflection blog posting only a couple of days ago, I had greatly enjoyed obtaining this information for you with last year’s series of “New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012″ so it was high time to do it again. In case you were curious, I slightly changed the premise this year to allow for a broader reach and at the end of the day I think you will be satisfied with the results. So now without any further adieu, the answers to “What Is Your New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013″ from some truly talented musicians. I reached out to some of the same contributors as last year and also to a wonderful new batch of people to make it all the more interesting.

1. Oderus Urungus (GWAR): To write and record the most awesome GWAR album yet, with our new guitar player, Pustulus Maximus!

2. Lance King: To make more music, it’s time to create another badass metallic opus for those paying attention!

3. Acey Slade (The Dark Party): If all goes as I hope I will be a part of 3 albums that come out in 2013. Which would be great because it’s been about 3 years since I put out anything new. The weird climate the music ‘business’ has been in, along with a shit economy has made musicians like me treat releasing new music with some trepidation. But on the creative end, there are over 20 Dark Party songs written, a dozen for another project I am working on and there’s other stuff too. So, my resolution would be to release new material, start to reestablish the ‘business’ side of things and also buy more new/current music. Last year I bought a lot of Motown, 70′s Glam, and 90′s alternative. I need some more metal in 2013…13 is a pretty metal number so..seems fitting.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Kamelot

I admit that I didn’t know too much about Kamelot when I first walked into a gig at B.B. King Blues Club to see them back in 2005 but since that night I have made up for lost time as best as possible and the band became one of my very favorite providers of Melodic Power Metal. I found them musically wonderful and felt that there was a sincerity about the way they did their thing that spoke to their fans again and again. I was still relatively new to the music scribe game back then but I have covered the live adventures of Kamelot whenever they returned to NYC, reviewed a number of their releases and even spoken at length to some of their members on the site and you can find it all by clicking the logo below. It will launch a search query of the band on the main site which we hope you will enjoy. If you are not all that familiar with them then I will repeat what I told a friend of mine who eventually joined me for a gig as I looked him in the eye and said “trust me on this one”. He did and has been pleased as well.

A Piercing Discussion with Tom Youngblood of Kamelot

Kamelot became one of my favorite Melodic Power Metal bands from the moment that I first heard them and with their always energetic shows are a group that consistently delivers. The summer was not yet over and the band had returned to B.B. King Blues Club for a gig with Leaves Eyes as their support. My original plan was to sit down with both Tom and singer Roy Khan but there was a miscommunication that found me sitting in the back office of the club as Tom ate where we discussed the new album, touring and being a member of this band.

I brainstormed that I would try and speak to Khan later on after the show if he had the energy and interest so if you want to see what I consider part one of a two way discussion about Metal, just click the bands logo below to be taken to our item on the main PiercingMetal.com site.

A Piercing Discussion with Kamelot’s Khan & Youngblood

Tonight would be my very first time catching the band Kamelot in action and after enjoying their latest smoking CD “The Black Halo” I could hardly wait to see how they did in concert. Before the show I would have a chance to speak to the bands singer Roy Khan, and afterward do a little bit of the same with guitarist Thomas Youngblood. I was very new to what they did but felt we got some good points across. Since we did this in the course of the same event, I added the later talk to the end of the article for good measure. Check out the combined discussions by clicking the logo below as it will take you over to the main PiercingMetal.com site.

Kamelot in Concert (11/21/2005)

I always try to be open to new and potentially exciting Metal bands and since becoming a music reviewer had heard some good things about the band Kamelot. They recently released their album “The Black Halo” on SPV Records and I had to admit it was growing on me and had quite a few stand out tracks. They would be performing at B.B. King Blues Club and this was a space I was finding myself at quite a few times based on the shows they were booking. I took photos of both bands at this show so to enjoy it all just click the bands logo below as that will bring you over to the main PiercingMetal.com website.
