New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 1

Hey there readers, and a Merry Post-Christmas to you all (if you indeed celebrated the holiday like we do at the PiercingMetal Command HQ); It’s also Boxing Day for some and we wish well to those readers indulging in that holiday. So why are we here you ask….. Well, as 2012 draws to it’s inevitable end, I once again found myself wondering what the people who bring us that sweet, sweet music during the year had on their minds for the coming year of 2013. As I mentioned in a reflection blog posting only a couple of days ago, I had greatly enjoyed obtaining this information for you with last year’s series of “New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012″ so it was high time to do it again. In case you were curious, I slightly changed the premise this year to allow for a broader reach and at the end of the day I think you will be satisfied with the results. So now without any further adieu, the answers to “What Is Your New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013″ from some truly talented musicians. I reached out to some of the same contributors as last year and also to a wonderful new batch of people to make it all the more interesting.

1. Oderus Urungus (GWAR): To write and record the most awesome GWAR album yet, with our new guitar player, Pustulus Maximus!

2. Lance King: To make more music, it’s time to create another badass metallic opus for those paying attention!

3. Acey Slade (The Dark Party): If all goes as I hope I will be a part of 3 albums that come out in 2013. Which would be great because it’s been about 3 years since I put out anything new. The weird climate the music ‘business’ has been in, along with a shit economy has made musicians like me treat releasing new music with some trepidation. But on the creative end, there are over 20 Dark Party songs written, a dozen for another project I am working on and there’s other stuff too. So, my resolution would be to release new material, start to reestablish the ‘business’ side of things and also buy more new/current music. Last year I bought a lot of Motown, 70′s Glam, and 90′s alternative. I need some more metal in 2013…13 is a pretty metal number so..seems fitting.

Kittie in Concert (5/16/2012)

2012 finds the band Kittie celebrating sixteen years of Metal existence in terms of touring, music and just making an impact on the lives of their ardent fans and tonight their tour would hit New York City. The package would also feature Blackguard, The Agonist and Bonded By Blood and would continue to support the girls latest release “I’ve Failed You”, their sixth full-length album. Having enjoyed Kittie in concert over the last few years of running this PiercingMetal site, I opted to check them out as opposed to seeing Destruction or Steel Panther who both had gigs in very close proximity. To see how the show went down just click the bands logo below, but then come back to the blog to enjoy some of the side images that I am only presenting in the blog posting.

The Haunted in Concert (4/19/2009)

The Haunted came a calling in NYC with special guest openers The Agonist and Merauder. It was a solid evening of Metal that closed out some really interesting activity in the city this weekend while many of the Metal faithful went up to the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. We remained in the Big Apple to enjoy what the city offered us and were on point for this one and were determined to report on each of the performers in words and images. Atheist in Concert (7/12/2009)

It’s been far too many years since Atheist had toured and now fans of the Technical Thrash Metal outfit have cause for celebration as the band returns to deliver their musical message as only they can.   The Metal innovators would be supporting a live release entitled “Unquestionable Presence: Live At Wacken/Pieces Of Time (1988/1993)” and give NYC fans a rousing show that also featured Gnostic, Psyopus and The Faceless.  The Agonist were also scheduled to appear on this bill tonight but ran into transportation issues that caused them to cancel.   Despite the surprising change we were on point to bring the entire evening to the readers.  Please click the logo below to be taken to our article on the main PiercingMetal.com site.  We discussed and photographed all performers.

A Piercing Discussion with Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonist

I had caught The Agonist for the very first time when they opened up a show for Epica back in September of 2007 and I was immediately impressed with the way that singer Alissa White-Gluz does her thing. She is a kick ass straight-edge Metal chick with a number of interesting aspects to her life which made setting up an interview something that would generate a lot of interest for our readers. Of course, the girls absolutely hectic and insane schedule led to our exchanging emails and doing it via that medium. Having met a few times at the clubs you will find that we managed to hold our internet conversation just as if we had done it face to face. Click the band logo below to be brought to the entire discussion on the main PiercingMetal.com site.

Having seen the band perform a number of times, readers and fans can click the link below to check out all of our live action shots of Alissa and company giving your their all on the stage. You can almost feel the Heavy Metal energy coming out of the photos and they are sure to make you want to go to check out this powerful band in concert sometime in your musical adventuring future.

Trail Of Tears in Concert (1/2008)

This was actually my second show of the Metal Year 2008 and it was rather special since it would not only be Trail Of Tears first time in NYC at this venue, but it was also the chance to see the openers Unexpect, The Agonist and Echoes Of Eternity once again. I had attended shows that they played out before and really dug what they were all about so it would be a nice bonus. Epica in Concert (9/2007)

Epica are one of the most musically exciting bands in the Symphonic Operatic Metal genre and tonight would be their first headlining NYC appearance. The show at the Highline Ballroom would deliver the band with openers Visions Of Atlantis, Unexpect and The Agonist for a very well-stocked night of music.
