PiercingMetal Goes To NY Comic Con 2012: Day 1; Part 1

Let’s get this party started shall we? Now, before I get into my many chapter posts about the 2012 NY Comic Con I want to tell you that it already has been a killer week for this reporter. All good things of course as we had a couple of concerts with Three Friends (doing their Gentle Giant set) and the mighty KISS performing at Live On Letterman in the famous Ed Sullivan Theater. This morning I hit a special Q&A session with KISS over at the Sirius XM Studios and of course all of those adventures will become posts as soon as I wrangle all the stuff together. Now it was time to get my butt in gear for the first part of Comic Con which was the Press/Professionals and VIP ticket holders day. This is the second year in a row that the fans mingled in with the Press and Pros as opposed to our kind being given a few hours of peace to observe and make notes about what we needed to see at the Con. The new model gets more fans into the room and now allows the event to span four days.

“The Misadventures Of Electrolyte” Issues 3 & 4

Last week I offered up some overview and opinion on the first two issues of “The Misadventures Of Electrolyte and The Justice Purveyors” that I had gotten my hands on during the 2011 NY Comic Con. I now continue the process for this title with issues three and four.

“The Misadventures Of Electrolyte” Issues 1 & 2

“Megalopolis is a virtually crime-free city. That’s great for the citizens of Megalopolis, but not for its superheroes. Now superheroes must compete against each other for work and no one is more affected by this plight than The Justice Purveyors. Led by Electrolyte, The Justice Purveyors primary stock and trade has been chasing reckless jaywalkers, dealing with drunk and disorderlies, scofflaws and general cases of moral turpitude”.

Such is the premise of “The Misadventures Of Electrolyte and The Justice Purveyors”, the first graphic novel by writer Patrick Reilly and artist Butch Mapa. Colors come from Mitch Claussen with letters by Wilson. I met Patrick at the NY Comic Con back in 2010 and he was kind enough to put a copy of the first issue in my hands but at the time I was not yet mapped out on how I wanted to do some comic book overviews. The site would get more into that when DC Comics launched their “The New 52″ initiative in the last part of 2011 and this leads me into finally getting some comments out about the first two issues of the title. Read on.

PiercingMetal Goes To NY Comic Con 2011: Day 2; Part 1

Friday was here and we were now at what amounted to the true beginning of the NY Comic Con for 2011.  Yesterday’s preview that we managed to get during the Press, Professionals & VIP Ticket Holders day was great, but it was only a three hour tour of what was there and this event is not something that is easily digested in that amount of time by any stretch of the imagination.  As mentioned in the first chapter of these adventures I will be breaking the days up into different parts to allow an easier manner of enjoyment.  I snapped a lot of photos and the Press adventuring continues now. PiercingMetal Goes To NY Comic Con & Anime Festival 2010: Day 1 (Part One)

It’s that time of year again when the NY Comic Con & Anime Festival hit NYC and take over the Jacob Javits Center for a few days.  This yearly event brings together the mighty hordes of comic book fans and Cosplayers alike gathered en masse to mingle with artists and the companies that provide this entertainment medium, and there are even celebrities in attendance for good measure.   The crowd of people is in the tens of thousands and this is the best place to be if you love comic books, video games and want to interact with people who hold similar interests.   You might be wondering why this would be given space on a site that is primarily focused on the Heavy Metal music scene but truth be told I’ve been a fan of the comics medium for many, many years but don’t collect them as actively as I used to based on space constraints.  I still read them when I can and am amazed about the amount of changes that have taken place in a number of the character histories but that is not what this narrative is about.  Instead, this blog posting is about my adventures at the Convention and aimed at showing you what caught our attention as we wandered its massive displays over the course of three days.  I figured with the amount of musical artists who had vested interests in the medium that we would find some interesting stuff as we adventured.  I’ve broken the journey up into individual days but be aware that even in doing this that the narratives are long.  Let’s get this trip underway shall we?

"Meanwhile At The Hall Of Justice"

It begins here at the Jacob Javits Center and this would be my first time covering the convention as a member of the press so I wanted to take full advantage of what was going on inside these walls.  As I walked toward the Javits Center I was reminded of the classic “Challenge Of The Super Friends” cartoon and hence my photographs quote.  It’s best to say this in a deep and powerful voice.
