The name of the band Overkill always manages to get nods of respect in the Metal world and this is rightly so because the band has never ceased their output of Metal albums and are one of the biggest thrill rides in concert to see. After the lights have gone up and the crowds have made their way home, you know you were at an Overkill show based on the amount of bruising and punishment your Metal self had taken for the past couple of hours. Tonight the band was back in NYC and delivering the goods with Accept as the direct support along with Sabaton and Cypher Seer starting it off. I got there for most of the bands and to see the full on concert report just click the logo below to be taken to the main PiercingMetal.com website. PiercingMetal.com had the honor of being one of the many guests of Eddie Trunk and the fine folks from Abrams Books at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square in order to celebrate the release of the radio/television personality’s first ever book – “Eddie Trunk’s Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal”. For many years the general public has known Eddie from his radio shows both satellite and terrestrial and then as the main man on the VH1 Classic hit program “That Metal Show”. Now he can add author to his listing of accomplishments. The affair was not open to the general public but some of the shows fans were given the opportunity to win a spot in the room and also to receive a copy of the book to take home with them after it was all done. Pretty cool eh? (continue reading…)
HAIL! is a band that takes the idea of a Metal Tribute act and kicks it up a notch and how could it do any less when the group is made up of Tim “Ripper” Owens, Mike Portnoy, Dave Ellefson and Adreas Kisser. The group was in NYC for one a few select appearances and this was sure to be a good time. They brought along the youthful Age Of Evil to get things started and if you want to learn more just click the logo see the the full article on the main PiercingMetal.com site. We posted lots of photos from the show because it also featured some surprise guest stars. Have a blast, because we sure did.
Tonight was a very special occasion at the time honored Times Square venue, so we snapped a shot of the B.B. King Blues Club marquee to help celebrate the arrival of HAIL! Let the Metal games begin.
We caught up with the young lads of Age Of Evil backstage and as luck would have it the one and only Tim “Ripper” Owens was nearby as well. Since this was such a great time we couldn’t resist snapping this shot of the lot of them. I felt like a Metal version of TMZ.
Here’s a shot of the front of the dressing room door but I am sorry that is as far as our cameras were allowed to go. If you are looking for anything more scandalous you will have to search a little more online for that kind of stuff
Overkill is one of the legends in the Thrash Metal annals of history and the band while going through a number of guitarist lineup changes has remained the core of D.D. Verni and Blitz for decades. Consistent touring and album releases prove that the band still has what it takes to entertain the fans and having just caught a smoldering gig at B.B. King Blues Club, we made plans to speak to the bands enigmatic front man at his earliest convenience. We caught up with him on the telephone in the beginning weeks of 2008 and found him eager to talk about a wide number of topics that ranged from the bands beginnings all the way up until today. Overkill are one of the truest legends of Thrash Metal and still deliver the goods in concert. This appearance found the band bringing along After Forever from Holland and they were another band that I really enjoy so I would not miss this show. The Cursed was an interesting side project that featured Bobby Blitz from Overkill and Dan Lorenzo from Hades/Non Fiction. This was announced as their first and last gig but in Rock and Roll things are never quite set in stone. Opening up the night was Joey Belladonna formerly of Anthrax and the Paul Green School Of Rock All-Stars who performed Metal standards. It was a great night and should you want to learn more about it just click the logo to be brought to our item on the main PiercingMetal.com site. We made sure to document everyone’s performance and take photos of all of them as well.
The place is always insanity when Overkill comes a knocking and tonight would be no different as the band took to the stage at B.B. King Blues Club. This would be only my second show into the Metal Year 2007 and the exciting time found Joey Belladonna and Metal Church opening the show. Meliah Rage appeared as well but we sadly missed them. Photos and comments about what we did catch are easy to find, just click the logo below to be taken to our article on the main PiercingMetal.com site.
Here’s a shot of some of the members of Overkill doing a sound check. We can see Derek Tailer, D.D. Verni, and Dave Linsk getting their sound under wraps. Bobby was not there for that, but its common for the singers to be saving their voice for the main show. Drummer Ron Lipnicki is there as well but obscured by the other folks working on the stage.
I was fortunate to be able to catch legendary former Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna with the new screamer for Metal Church Ronny Munroe. The guys were both excited to be performing for a sold out NYC Metal crowd.
Overkill is an exciting live experience without question and while I really enjoy their shows I was equally excited to be able to enjoy the Finnish band Sonata Arctica for the very first time in the live sense. The bands would be playing B.B. King Blues Club which is striking me as the place to be for shows these days. To enjoy the full report and lots of photos just click the logo below.
