PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Iron Maiden

You have to give credit to a band like Iron Maiden because not only are they one of the best providers of Metal music ever, but even now after thirty years of doing their thing prove that they are stronger than ever in bringing this message to the masses. In addition to their very healthy crop of incendiary albums, they have released numerous live recordings, video concerts and greatest hits packages that let us stock our shelves and keep mascot Eddie pleased. 2010 is almost at a close and The Maiden shows no sign of stopping and in the eyes of the Metal masses this is a very good thing. We’ve covered a number of the group’s releases, videos and shows on the website so to learn what we had to say about them you can just click the logo below to launch the query of all Iron Maiden content on PiercingMetal.com – “Up The Irons!”

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Queensryche

My interest in Queensryche goes a pretty long way back and I can say to the readers that the first time I ever caught them in concert was when they were opening up for KISS on the bands “Animalize” tour. They were supporting their soon to be released masterpiece “Warning” and believe it or not, I couldn’t have cared less that night. This was based on the KISS mania setting in and my not being open to this obviously rising star in the Metal world. I was not alone in this view and that was just how a KISS show worked. You often were bored at any opening band while you waited for the Kings Of The Nighttime World to come out and dominate the stage. Moving ahead a couple of years in time, the chance to see Queensryche again happened when Iron Maiden was on their legendary “Powerslave” tour and for me this was a match made in heaven. I say it like this because the band was winning me over note after note and had the many thousands of fans in Radio City Music Hall pushing their fists into the air as singer Geoff Tate told us to “Take Hold Of The Flame” with a soaring and commanding register. I’ve been a fan ever since that time and have followed them as a band in both my personal life and as that of a music journalist. They pushed the envelope a number of times in their releases and we have reviewed many of their recordings and video films on the site as well as supported their touring efforts. To see all of the content that is dedicated to Queensryche just click their logo below to launch the query that will present all of the reviews resident on the PiercingMetal.com website.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Judas Priest

For as long as I can remember, I have maintained that in my status as a Heavy Metal and Hard Rock fan that my own “Big Three” favorites were KISS, Van Halen and Judas Priest. Over the years I have of course come to appreciate and enjoy a wider variety of acts for the genre because there are so many amazing groups out there, but this list and its ranking has rarely veered off course. If memory serves me correctly, I first heard the band in High School about a thousand years ago (give or take) and the album of note at the time was “Hell Bent For Leather”. Wait, I am wrong in this assumption – the album that I FIRST heard by the band would the live recording of “Unleashed In The East”, and was the album that captured the band in action while on tour to support “HBFL”. I had never heard anything like the vocals of Rob Halford and the twin guitar wizardry of Downing and Tipton and when you put all this together with the powerful drumming of Les Binks I could safely admit that I was a fan from that moment on. From this defining moment I would try my own hand at some of the drum parts, look into the bands back catalog and even become the town crier who hoped to convince other Metal fans to rally behind me in the bands cause. Good times to say the least.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Kamelot

I admit that I didn’t know too much about Kamelot when I first walked into a gig at B.B. King Blues Club to see them back in 2005 but since that night I have made up for lost time as best as possible and the band became one of my very favorite providers of Melodic Power Metal. I found them musically wonderful and felt that there was a sincerity about the way they did their thing that spoke to their fans again and again. I was still relatively new to the music scribe game back then but I have covered the live adventures of Kamelot whenever they returned to NYC, reviewed a number of their releases and even spoken at length to some of their members on the site and you can find it all by clicking the logo below. It will launch a search query of the band on the main site which we hope you will enjoy. If you are not all that familiar with them then I will repeat what I told a friend of mine who eventually joined me for a gig as I looked him in the eye and said “trust me on this one”. He did and has been pleased as well.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Motorhead

When it comes to honesty in one’s delivery of the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal justice you will find no one better at the task than Lemmy Kilmister and his comrades in Motorhead. At the time of this posting, it’s been just under thirty five years that the band has been in action and their albums are bonafide classics. Growing up as an eighties Metal youth I remember seeing the cover for “Ace Of Spades” and knowing that it just had to be purchased and I cannot stress how glad I was to snare it way back then as it’s remained my very favorite in the bands catalog. Over the years the lineups have changed and found Lemmy to be the only constant and yet no matter who has come and gone from the ranks, the music remains vital and their live shows deafening. They are truly louder than anything else. We’ve covered a number of the bands releases and some live appearances since the website began and readers can enjoy all of this content by clicking the logo below. It will launch a search query on the bands reviews on the main PiercingMetal.com website.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Anthrax

Back in the early days of Thrash Metal, the guys in Anthrax were the hometown heroes to those Metal fans who lived in the New York area.  Formed in the Bronx, the guys were wild and their riffs insane on top of some knock you down drumming.  The UK might have given us the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal a few years earlier, but it was clear to many fans on this side of the fence that the USA was doing well at making a mark of its own.  During these formative years of my own Metal development, I had to admit that I preferred a lot more of the Anthrax stuff to that of Metallica and this surprised some of my friends but found me in kinship with those who felt the same way.  Eventually I found myself enthralled by the Tallica’s and Slayer’s but for the beginning it was NYC for me without question.

When PiercingMetal.com was launched it was very close to the time that the original or “staple” lineup of the band had reunited and once again reminded fans about why they were so enjoyed in Metal’s history.  We also began reviewing whatever releases came out at the time as soon as we got our hungry Metal hands on them.  Click the logo below to be taken to all of the Anthrax content on PiercingMetal.com and find yourself “Caught In A Mosh” once again.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Iced Earth

Even though we got into this band a little later than we would have liked to we feel that we began our own interest in them at a very crucial point in their career. The band is Traditional Power Metal and is the brainchild of guitarist Jon Schaffer. The musician is very passionate about his beliefs and ideals and this reflects in the bands music. His love of history and science fiction found him being able to deliver his fans some really unique albums and this made our own adventures in supporting the band a lot more fun. The band has had a number of lineup changes since their inception but this is all in accordance with what Jon’s overall vision is for the body of work he is doing. They have a lot of great stuff and we’ve been glad to support it. To learn what we have said about them you can just click the logo below to launch the query of all Iced Earth content on PiercingMetal.com – we hope you like it.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Trans-Siberian Orchestra

For those who have been living under a rock, let me inform you about the juggernaut of musical enterprise that is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra – it is a power packed ensemble that first came into the public eye with the Christmas Eve and Other StoriesCD and since that time has performed for record numbers of wide-eyed fans. Primarily a holiday themed group, the original premise of the TSO came from producer Paul O’Neill who was instrumental in a number of Savatage releases in terms of the musical direction that the group took. As a matter of fact the bands signature number “Christmas Eve Sarajevo” was originally presented on that bands Dead Winter Dead CD. The rest is as they say history. We’ve covered every release from the band and have seen them perform a number of times. To enjoy our articles on the various Trans-Siberian Orchestra adventures just click their logo below to launch the query.

Since the original time that I had this group in my no longer used “Artist Of The Month” section on PiercingMetal.com, a number of changes have happened with the lineup but the music and show grows bigger and better each and every year. I start getting goosebumps in anticipation of it happening around October when the tickets usually go on sale. Once you see it for yourself you will understand why.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: H.I.M.

PiercingMetal.com has been into the band HIM for a couple of years and this was even before we began our own adventures on the site so they became a logical choice for the next Artist Focus that we would do. We’ve been able to watch them from the first concert done in the region at a small venue to seeing them headline a number of dates at the larger ones. Formed in 1991 over in Helsinki, Finland, the group became one of the countries most popular musical exports. A good chunk of the band’s catalog of releases has been reviewed on the site so just click the logo below to see all of it for your own enjoyment.

You can also enjoy any photographs that we have posted of the artist by clicking HERE.

PiercingMetal Artist Focus: Chris Caffery from Savatage & TSO

Re-presenting the first ever PiercingMetal.com “Artist Of The Month” which now goes by the moniker of “PiercingMetal Artist Focus” and delivers our grand debut choice which was Mr. Chris Caffery from Savatage, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  At the time of our initial website launch, we had opted to make Chris our choice based on having met him a number of times and his having been the very first interview ever done as a new to the music world journalist.  At the time he had just began the final preparations on his own solo CD “Faces” and since that time has released many more.

Click his logo below to run the query and enjoy all of the articles written about Chris that are currently posted on PiercingMetal.com .
