Opening Today: “Iron Man 3″

Poster - Iron Man 3

And now the second big wave of Marvel Cinematic Universe films begins and comes to us via “Iron Man 3″ where Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as both Tony Stark and Iron Man. I know I’ve broadcast about this already when we got the first official trailer, but you should know that I eat this stuff up. Iron Man will be going head to head with The Mandarin who is being played by Ben Kingsley and we can also count on Don Cheadle reprising his role as Rhodey and donning an altered version of the War Machine armor we saw in “Iron Man 2″. While this looks exciting, I am a tad skeptical about a non-Chinese Mandarin but let’s see how they work this explanation out if they do it at all.

I’ve closed the means to comment on this one so I avoid any spoiler reviews being left here. My hope is to see the film as soon as possible but I don’t think I will add any sort of review to the site until it comes out on DVD. A link to the trailers can be found HERE if you have not yet seen one.

G.I. Joe Retaliation Will Give Us A Commanding Appearance!!!

Check Out The Trailer for “Pacific Rim” (2013)

I am only just now hearing about this film, but after seeing the trailer I just had to toss it into a posting to help broadcast it and line out my excitement about what it is. Please tell me I am not alone in the being unaware about this one. If not, oh well, I guess that happens from time to time.

The film will come courtesy of Guillermo del Toro and find the world attacked by giant monsters or Kaiju if you are up on your Japanese monster lore (you know, Godzilla, Ghidrah, Gamera etc). The only to defend our world from this menace is to create monsters of our own in the form of giant robots that are controlled by trained soldiers. I have to say that this one reminds me of the Voltron stuff, Shogun Warriors and obviously the Gundam Wing adventures so it should be super cool. Check out the trailer below and let me know what your thoughts or expectations are for the film. I will admit that I am already more interested in this one than the upcoming “Man Of Steel” film.

Check Out The Expanded Trailer for “Man Of Steel” (2013)

I’ve not been quiet about my enjoyment of the crop of Marvel Cinematic Universe films over the last couple of years on our official blog for PiercingMetal and now its time to give some attention over to what we will find coming out next year from the DC Comics side. The next film for their characters will be a reboot of the Superman franchise entitled “Man Of Steel” and will give us his origin, discovery of powers and a battle with an evil Kryptonian named General Zod. You might perhaps remember that Superman fought Zod and some other criminals from his home world in “Superman II” if you are of a certain age and if you don’t I still highly recommend those two films.

I’m sorry that I was unable to just embed the trailer from the official site but oh well. At least you can see it. Clearly this is a darker and more brooding take on the hero than I expected so I hope it works out for them and the future of the franchise. The important thing to remember is that Superman is NOT Batman and hence not dark in his motivations for heroism. Superman is supposed to be as good and as positive as all get out and is pretty much unbeatable based on his powers. Batman on the other hand is just a whole lot of whoop ass that leaves villains wishing they stayed home.

The film stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Ken), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe (as Jor-El).

Before my words get taken wrong, you should know I love Superman and want an exciting, heroic film for the character. I did not enjoy Green Lantern all that much and I felt that Dark Knight Rises needed a little more Batman in it so I am going to be a bit skeptical until I walk out of the theater next year. To my knowledge there will be no intermingling of characters in this new film which is a shame since after Marvel’s “The Avengers”, a “Justice League” movie would be a very interesting project to see develop. What are your hopes for this film and the future of Superman in cinema? I have left the comments open to discuss a little bit.

The Trailer For “Iron Man 3″ Is Here

We tend to geek out over here for the Comic Book stuff on the PiercingMetal Musings Blog and have been proving our proud Nerd factor time and time again with the review of the various titles and whenever possible some discussion of the very exciting Marvel Cinematic Universe films. I never mentioned this but it doesn’t matter at this point, but I didn’t see “Iron Man” when it first came out. It was a very busy time in life so I needed to wait for DVD but I did catch “The Incredible Hulk” in the cinema and loved how the building of a shared universal timeline was happening with these characters. Wasn’t it fantastic that those films led to not only a second Iron Man film, but also a Thor and Captain America one and brought us to the blockbuster hit of 2012 – “The Avengers”.

That exciting film brings us to the next go round for Iron Man who will battle for his life against The Mandarin (who will be played by Ben Kingsley). Since the trailer has just been put online I am sharing with you readers so we can get a little dialogue going about the premise and what we hope it all will amount to. Of course it will be followed by the second Thor and Captain American films before we get a sequel to The Avengers. Take a look.

Wow. That sure looks awesome and some people are already commenting that it looks much better than “Iron Man 2″. I guess I can agree with them in some sense because Whiplash while a solid villain for Iron Man, was not presented in the way most fans knew him, nor is he as formidable as The Mandarin. Personally I liked some of what “Iron Man 2″ offered up, and enjoyed seeing War Machine do some damage. I wonder if the rumors of our seeing Ant Man in one of the teaser scenes is true. I admit that I am on the fence about this being one of the next films but let’s see what happens right. Whatever the case may be, its without question that Robert Downey Jr. has been doing a terrific job as Tony Stark/Iron Man and I look forward to seeing him continue to do this role.

I’ve left the comments open on this one, so what do you all think of what the trailer was like? We have a pretty long time before the film comes out. Its a May 2013 release date.

The CW Network Aims An “Arrow” At Its Viewers

I’m getting to this a little past the show’s premier, but that was based on my being busy with all the posts involving the NY Comic Con 2012 so please pardon me for the lapse. In any event, DC Comics has given us a live action television series called “Arrow” which will bring to life the adventures of a hero we know and love called Green Arrow. The official byline is below:

The television series iteration of the DC Comics character stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, an eccentric billionaire who was recently discovered alive on a deserted island after having been presumed dead for five years. Queen returns to Starling City and begins moonlighting as a crime fighter. Arrow premieres on Wednesday, October 10th.

Former White Lion/Megadeth Bassist James Lomenzo Will Be Running “The Amazing Race”

Well it looks like Reality Television is getting another shot of Heavy Metal because this time around James Lomenzo (the former bassist of White Lion and Megadeth) will be running “The Amazing Race” with his friend Mark Abbattista aka Abba (a lawyer). Perhaps this is the new trend because this is the second time an actual Metal personality of some kind of note will be participating in something like this. We most recently witnessed Jennifer Arroyo aka Miss Jenncity (former of Kittie) giving it her all on “Big Brother” (and I mused about that HERE).

Opening Today: Batman “The Dark Knight Rises” (7/20/2012)

The big day is finally here for the fans of the Batman franchise as “The Dark Knight Rises” opens up in theaters everywhere. The film continues and apparently completes the saga that Chris Nolan began with “Batman Begins” and continued with “The Dark Knight” and I have to admit that I never realized this was going to be a trilogy. Nolan’s Batman was grittier than any we had seen before, and even more so than the one from the 1989 film where he was played by Michael Keaton. In any event I am excited for this movie.

The readers of the PiercingMetal Musings blog know that we love the comic book medium here on the site and that is why we’ve been posting narratives about a number of comic book properties such as DC Comics’ own “The New 52” pieces. It will be interesting to see just how Batman returns to the mix after the actions in “The Dark Knight” and how he fares against the likes of The Catwoman (Ann Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy). We’ve all seen the costumes that these villains will be sporting in advertisements and across the Internet and while I like the Catwoman suit, I will say that Bane is not too much in terms of design in my humble opinion. The film once again stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon.

Since I don’t think that I will be offering up a review before the film has been out for a few weeks based on ticket availability and my own time to see it, I’m going to leave the comments section closed on this little advertisement posting to avoid any spoilers that might accidentally happen and especially to prevent those who just love to ruin it for everyone else. Hope you all enjoy the film if you see it before me. Now…..to the Batmobile……

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Will Expand \m/

So the other day at SDCC they announced some of the upcoming Marvel superhero films that will continue to expand upon their shared cinematic universe and I will say that I am all for them if they continue the excellence that we found in Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. I downloaded the logos for each of them and will speak a little bit about the offerings and what I personally hope we can expect.

Former Kittie/Suicide City Bassist Ms. Jenncity (Jennifer Arroyo) Will Be On “Big Brother”

I’m not too sure about how many of the PiercingMetal Musings blog readers are fans of Reality Television shows but there just might be a few of you out there and based on one of the participants on the “Big Brother” program this season I am posting a blurb blog note for you all to be aware of. It seems that the popular CBS television show is getting a dose of Metal this coming season by bringing Miss Jennifer Arroyo into the house. This will be the second “Metal Person” to compete with the first being Adam Poch who while I do not know personally, does know many of my Metal circle people. To my knowledge Jennifer will be the first musician of note to play.
