Back during the 2011 Book Expo America at the Javits Center, I happened upon the Hermes Press book booth and thanks to their publicist Chris Irving, got a healthy dose of what they were up to as a company. In time, Chris would move on to bigger and better things for himself and one of these things would be the publishing of a book with his creative partner Seth Kushner. The book is called “Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins Of American Comics” and it features more than 50 creator profiles and tons of photography. Tonight both Chris and Seth would present this book to an audience at the Housing Works Bookstore Café and offer up insight and discussion with the creative forces of both Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams. If you have any background in comics I don’t need to explain who these guys are but if you do not, then please do some digging around for early 1970’s Batman stories as well as the seminal Green Lantern/Green Arrow title. There are plenty of trade paperbacks loaded with their combined storytelling and illustrating prowess that is for sure.
